Record-Setting Gold Grades Highlight Astoria’s Potential

Lac Gold Limited (ASX:LAC) has unveiled some of the most eye-catching gold assay results yet from its Rouyn Gold Project in Québec, Canada. Drilling at the Astoria deposit returned a staggering 0.5 metres grading 1,580 grams per tonne (g/t) gold, the highest grade reported in the current campaign. This intercept sits within a broader 5.65m interval averaging 141.29g/t Au, underscoring the presence of discrete, exceptionally high-grade shoots within a larger mineralised system.

These results come from hole AS-26-793, drilled roughly 25 metres below historic underground workings, hosted in a structurally favourable setting along the contact between ultramafic volcanic and sedimentary rocks. Notably, the high-grade gold is not accompanied by significant sulphides but is associated with intense hydrothermal alteration, including quartz veining and brecciation, reinforcing the importance of structural and alteration controls in localising gold mineralisation.

Broad Mineralised Halos Confirm Large-Scale Gold System

Beyond the headline intercepts, Lac Gold’s drilling continues to reveal broad mineralised halos with grades typically between 1 and 3.5 g/t Au over tens of metres. These extensive zones envelop higher-grade shoots and are consistent with the company’s interpretation of a large, structurally controlled orogenic gold system along the Cadillac-Larder Lake Break.

For example, hole AS-26-787 returned 97.5m at 1.04g/t Au, including a 17m interval at 3.58g/t Au, while AS-26-788 intersected nearly 50m at 1.12g/t Au with several higher-grade sub-intervals. These broad envelopes are crucial for defining the resource base and suggest significant potential to grow the mineral resource through both lateral and down-plunge extensions.

Drilling Progress and Next Steps

The initial 15,000-metre Phase 1 drilling campaign has now been completed, successfully confirming continuity of mineralisation and validating the geological model. Phase 2 drilling, also targeting 15,000 metres, is underway with two diamond rigs operating and a substantial volume of assays still pending.

Lac Gold is focusing its efforts on extending known mineralisation along strike and at depth, particularly between 400 and 1,000 metres below surface, as well as advancing exploration of additional targets along the Cadillac Break corridor. The company is also integrating new data into updated geological and structural models, employing advanced artificial intelligence tools to refine targeting.

Geological Model Supports Resource Growth Potential

The exploration results reinforce the view of Astoria as a large orogenic gold system characterised by broad hydrothermal alteration zones hosting localized high-grade shoots. These shoots appear structurally controlled, occurring within brittle zones that acted as fluid pathways, with mineralisation hosted mainly in carbonatised ultramafic rocks and altered sedimentary units.

Andrew Stocks, Lac Gold’s Managing Director, highlighted the significance of the results, noting the strong correlation between visible gold previously reported and the latest assays. He emphasised that the coexistence of broad mineralised halos and discrete high-grade domains bolsters confidence in the deposit’s scale and growth potential.

Pending Assays and Forward-Looking Considerations

While the recent results are compelling, a significant number of assay results remain outstanding from ongoing drilling. The company’s rigorous analytical approach includes screen metallic and gravimetric analyses to address coarse gold effects, ensuring representative assay reporting.

With a current Mineral Resource Estimate of 1.66 million ounces at 3.28g/t Au already established, the new drilling targets extensions beyond this envelope. How the pending assays and Phase 2 drilling results will impact the resource size and grade distribution remains a key question for investors and market watchers.
