Early Copper-Gold Signals at Ularring

Constellation Resources Limited (ASX:CR1) has unveiled its first drilling results from the Ularring Copper Gold Project in Western Australia, revealing shallow but anomalous copper and gold mineralisation near the granite-greenstone boundary known as the Meenar Shear. The maiden reverse circulation (RC) program at the Chatham Prospects returned intercepts such as 7 metres at 0.25% copper and 0.04 grams per tonne gold, and 15 metres at 0.22% copper and 0.08 grams per tonne gold, both starting from surface.

This early-stage mineralisation is hosted within the regolith and remains open both along strike and at depth, with the current drilling only testing down to the base of oxidation. The program comprised 12 holes for 450 metres, targeting soil anomalies previously identified over the Meenar Shear corridor, a regionally significant structural feature.

Strategic Location Near Major Deposits

The Ularring Project sits about 35 kilometres south of Caravel Minerals’ substantial copper deposit, which holds an Ore Reserve of over 583 million tonnes at 0.24% copper, and 22 kilometres south of Chalice Mining’s Deep Blue prospect, recently highlighted for its copper-rare earth element potential. This proximity places Ularring in a highly prospective copper-gold belt within the Yilgarn Craton, known for hosting large-scale intrusion-related mineral systems.

Constellation’s drilling confirmed that the Chatham Prospect’s anomalous copper-gold mineralisation aligns with regional structures, extending approximately 12 kilometres along strike from the nearby Centre Forest Prospect, which has also returned promising copper-gold intersections historically.

Next Steps in Exploration

Buoyed by the encouraging results, Constellation plans a suite of follow-up activities in the coming field season. These include a shallow air core drilling program to better define the extent of regolith mineralisation, deeper RC drilling to test fresh rock below the weathered zone, and induced polarisation (IP) geophysical surveys to pinpoint potential fresh copper mineralisation targets. Additional surface geochemical sampling along the Meenar Shear is also on the agenda.

The company’s exploration efforts at Ularring are supported by a $57,500 Exploration Incentive Scheme grant, underscoring government interest in advancing the project’s potential. The region’s complex geology, featuring mafic, ultramafic, and granitoid rocks, combined with historical data and recent geophysical surveys, continues to suggest that Ularring may host a significant intrusion-related copper-gold system.

Geological Context and Regional Potential

Ularring lies within the Jimperding Metamorphic Belt, part of the Archaean Yilgarn Craton, an area known for multi-million ounce gold and copper deposits. The Meenar Shear zone, which appears to mark a boundary between differing rock domains, has seen little prior drilling, making the current results at Chatham particularly noteworthy. Preliminary interpretations suggest the mineralisation could be shear-hosted or skarn-style, with potential contributions from granitoid intrusions.

Constellation’s technical director, Peter Muccilli, who reviewed the exploration data, highlights the importance of further work to understand the mineralisation’s orientation and true width, which remains uncertain with the current drill spacing. The company’s methodical approach, combining geochemistry, geophysics, and targeted drilling, aims to delineate the system’s scale and economic viability.
