Austin Metals has kicked off a significant reverse circulation drilling campaign at its Austin Gold Project, aiming to test fresh BIF-hosted gold targets at Brunswick Hill and extensions at Mt Sandy in Western Australia.
- 4,000m RC drilling underway targeting BIF-hosted gold zones
- Five high-priority targets along 3km of Brunswick Hill BIF stratigraphy
- Drilling at Mt Sandy to explore extensions of known gold mineralisation
- Assay results expected within 4–6 weeks post-drilling
- Ongoing exploration milestones planned to refine geological models
Drilling Program Targets Untested BIF Gold Zones
Austin Metals Limited (ASX:AYT) has commenced a ~4,000 metre reverse circulation (RC) drilling program at its Austin Gold Project in Western Australia’s Murchison region, focusing on newly identified gold targets at Brunswick Hill and Mt Sandy. The campaign marks the first substantial drill test of several high-priority targets generated from recent exploration efforts.
The Brunswick Hill area stands out with over three kilometres of prospective banded iron formation (BIF) stratigraphy hosting multiple targets. These targets are defined by favourable chert-magnetite BIF host rocks, interpreted structural intersections, oxidised quartz-sulphide veining, and gold-pathfinder geochemical anomalies; features reminiscent of significant BIF-hosted gold systems in the Cue-Mt Magnet district.
Focus on Brunswick Hill and Mt Sandy Extensions
Drilling will initially test five priority BIF-hosted gold targets along Brunswick Hill’s 3km prospective trend. Following this, the rig will move to Mt Sandy to target extensions of previously identified gold mineralisation associated with quartz-sulphide veining along a sheared mafic-felsic contact. At Mt Sandy, the drilling aims to delineate structurally controlled zones that could host higher-grade gold mineralisation at depth.
Assay results are anticipated approximately 4 to 6 weeks after the completion of drilling, with Austin Metals planning to provide regular updates as the program progresses. The company intends to integrate these results into its evolving geological model to guide future exploration and drilling campaigns across the Austin Gold Project.
Strategic Importance of the Drilling Campaign
Managing Director Mike Moore emphasised the significance of this drilling milestone: "This program is the first meaningful drill test of several newly generated gold targets, and we look forward to delivering regular exploration milestones over the coming months." The Brunswick Hill trend’s geological characteristics align with those of established gold systems nearby, underscoring the potential of the targets under evaluation.
Beyond Brunswick Hill and Mt Sandy, Austin Metals is advancing assessments and statutory approvals for proposed drilling at its Teds and Shadow prospects, aiming to expand its pipeline of drill-ready targets. This ongoing targeting and ranking process reflects a methodical approach to unlocking value within the 111 square kilometre Austin Gold Project, which neighbours Ramelius Resources’ Cue Gold Project and Caprice Resources’ Island Gold Project.
Bottom Line?
Austin Metals’ drilling campaign could reshape the geological understanding of Brunswick Hill’s gold potential, but assay results will be critical to validate these high-priority targets.
Questions in the middle?
- Will assay results confirm the presence of significant gold mineralisation at the newly targeted Brunswick Hill zones?
- How might findings from Mt Sandy influence the broader exploration strategy across the Austin Gold Project?
- What timelines can investors expect for updates on drilling progress and subsequent exploration phases at Teds and Shadow?
