Grant Boosts Molyhil Drilling Program
Tivan Limited (ASX:TVN) has secured a $141,237 exploration grant from the Northern Territory Government under its Geophysics and Drilling Collaborations program. The funding will support approximately 600 metres of diamond drilling at the Molyhil Tungsten Project, located around 220 kilometres northeast of Alice Springs.
The drilling is designed to test magnetite skarn mineralisation rich in tungsten and molybdenum, identified through detailed geophysical surveys that revealed coincident gravity and magnetic anomalies. The objective is to assess whether these anomalies represent extensions of mineralisation beyond the existing Molyhil deposit.
Advancing Pre-Feasibility and Drilling Stages
Tivan is actively progressing a Pre-Feasibility Study (PFS) focused on mining and processing operations to produce tungsten scheelite and molybdenite concentrates for export. A recent Scoping Study confirmed the technical and economic viability of the project based on current assumptions.
Stage 1 drilling, targeting four tungsten prospects, has been completed with assay results pending. Geophysical surveys across Molyhil and the nearby Sandover Fluorite Project are also complete, with results expected shortly. The company aims to commence a more extensive Stage 2 drilling program in July 2026, which will include resource definition, metallurgical, geotechnical, and hydrogeological drilling.
Community Engagement and Regulatory Steps
Tivan has made significant strides in engaging Traditional Owners and Native Title Holders through the Central Land Council. This includes a $1 million community development initiative over four years to support Indigenous communities in Central Australia, recent on-country cultural heritage surveys, and meetings with Arraperre Native Title Holders.
Concurrently, Tivan is advancing the application for an Environmental (Mining) Licence with the Northern Territory Government, a necessary step before drilling can proceed.
Joint Venture Talks with Sumitomo Corporation
The company has also made progress in joint venture discussions with Sumitomo Corporation, aiming to replicate the collaborative development model used at its Speewah Fluorite Project. Tivan expects to formalise a "Key Terms Memorandum of Understanding" with relevant parties by the end of June 2026, setting the stage for joint venture formation.
Bottom Line?
Tivan’s NT grant accelerates Molyhil drilling and joint venture momentum, but assay results and approvals remain key near-term catalysts.
Questions in the middle?
- Will assay results from Stage 1 drilling confirm extensions of tungsten mineralisation?
- How will joint venture terms with Sumitomo shape project funding and development timelines?
- What impact will ongoing Indigenous engagement have on permitting and community support?
