ANTAM's 2025 AGM approved a record Rp5.04 trillion dividend distribution, reflecting a 106% profit surge. The company also greenlit a government-backed nickel downstreaming program to build Indonesia's EV battery ecosystem.

  • Record Rp5.04 trillion dividend payout approved
  • Net profit more than doubles to Rp7.92 trillion
  • Government special assignment for nickel downstreaming
  • Management reshuffle with new appointments
  • Focus on ESG and sustainable growth

Record Dividend Reflects Historic Profit Jump

PT ANTAM (Persero) Tbk (ASX:ATM) delivered its strongest financial performance ever in 2025, prompting shareholders at its recent AGM in Jakarta to approve a landmark dividend payout of Rp5.04 trillion, representing 70% of net profit. This comes on the back of a 106% jump in net profit to Rp7.92 trillion and a 22% revenue increase to Rp84.64 trillion, underscoring the company’s operational resilience amid global commodity price swings and macroeconomic uncertainty.

The remaining 30% of net profit, or Rp2.16 trillion, will be retained to fund ongoing business development and strategic projects, signalling ANTAM’s commitment to balancing shareholder returns with growth investments.

Government Partnership to Accelerate Nickel Downstreaming

Beyond financial milestones, ANTAM secured shareholder approval to undertake a government special assignment aimed at fast-tracking nickel downstreaming and building a national electric vehicle (EV) battery ecosystem. This ambitious initiative spans the entire value chain, from mining and refining to battery cell manufacturing and recycling.

The project will be executed in partnership with PT Industri Baterai Indonesia (IBI) and HYD Investment Limited, a consortium including Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt, EVE Energy, and PT Daaz Bara Lestari. This collaboration is designed to boost domestic value addition, diversify revenue streams, and enhance long-term business resilience.

Strategic Management Changes and Corporate Governance

The AGM also ratified a significant reshuffle in ANTAM’s leadership. Notable changes include the appointment of Aryanto Wibowo as Commissioner and I Dewa Wirantaya as Director of Downstream Strategy and Operations, alongside Arini Kasmira stepping in as Director of Finance and Risk Management. Several directors were reassigned to new roles to better align with the company's downstream and strategic priorities.

ANTAM’s President Director, Untung Budiharto, highlighted the company’s focus on strengthening business fundamentals, operational efficiency, and embedding Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles to sustain growth and competitiveness.

Positioning Indonesia in the Global EV Supply Chain

This strategic pivot towards nickel downstreaming and EV battery production aligns with Indonesia’s national agenda to industrialise natural resources and increase domestic value addition. ANTAM’s integrated approach aims to secure a stronger foothold in the global supply chain for EV batteries, a sector expected to grow rapidly amid the global energy transition.

While the filing does not specify timelines or capital commitments for these downstream projects, the government-backed mandate and strategic partnerships indicate a significant long-term transformation for ANTAM’s business model.

Bottom Line?

ANTAM’s record profits and dividend payout mark a milestone, but the real test will be executing the complex nickel downstreaming projects that could reshape its future.

Questions in the middle?

  • How will ANTAM finance the capital-intensive downstream projects alongside dividend commitments?
  • What timelines and milestones will define progress in the national EV battery ecosystem development?
  • How might global commodity price volatility impact ANTAM’s downstreaming strategy and profitability?
