Manhattan Gold Launches Major Drilling to Validate Historic High-Grade Gold at Hook Lake

Historic Gold Targets Under the Microscope
Manhattan Gold Corporation (ASX:MHC) has commenced its most ambitious exploration program at the Hook Lake Project in Nunavut, Canada, drilling 4,000 metres of reverse circulation (RC) for the first time in over three decades. The campaign focuses on confirming and expanding the Jaws resource, a historic estimate of 3.4 million tonnes grading 2.38 g/t gold, which remains unclassified under the JORC Code. This drilling marks a pivotal step to validate and potentially upgrade these legacy results with modern techniques.
The Jaws target, last drilled in 1988, has never been fully tested for strike and depth extensions. Manhattan plans to drill towards the southeast to capture a more accurate true thickness of the mineralised zone, addressing past drilling orientations that exaggerated intercept widths. Early holes will also deploy optical televiewer tools to gather structural data critical for understanding the high-grade gold shoots typical of orogenic systems.
Polymetallic and High-Grade Vein Systems Join the Drill List
Beyond Jaws, the program will test the Spectre prospect, where copper-zinc-gold-silver massive sulphide lenses were last drilled in 1974. Confirmation drilling here will be followed by step-outs along strike and down-dip to assess continuity.
Manhattan is also targeting two newly identified high-grade gold-silver vein systems, Quantum and Lotus, discovered during 2025 surface sampling. These have never been drilled before but returned surface rock chip assays up to 16.75 g/t gold and 2,660 g/t silver, respectively. Drilling these veins for the first time could unlock fresh high-grade zones within the project.
The Omega banded iron formation (BIF) will see drilling aimed at understanding its structural and lithological framework, with RC chips providing geological and geochemical context. This will support broader interpretations of mineralisation controls across the project.
Integrated Exploration with Sampling and Geophysics
Complementing drilling, Manhattan is undertaking a comprehensive till sampling survey across the Vesper-Jaws-Omega trend to detect buried gold and polymetallic mineralisation beneath glacial cover. This large-scale geochemical effort will feed into target generation alongside high-resolution airborne magnetic surveys, which have been expanded to cover new mineral claims staked earlier this year.
Channel and rock sampling will also revisit recently acquired claims west of Hook Lake, where historic channel samples reported grades as high as 17.14 g/t gold. These surface assays will help refine drill targets and assess mineralisation continuity on outcrop.
Unlocking Nunavut’s Next Gold District
Technical Advisor Eric Sondergaard highlighted the significance of this program, noting that Hook Lake sits within a well-endowed greenstone belt that has seen minimal modern exploration despite hosting major mines nearby. Manhattan’s approach combines modern geophysics, structural geology, and systematic sampling to unlock value across a 665km2 portfolio.
With this drilling campaign underway, Manhattan aims to transform historic, unclassified resources into JORC-compliant assets and potentially delineate new zones of high-grade gold and polymetallic mineralisation.
