REZ Drilling Confirms Gold Beyond Gigante Grande Resource Boundary
Resources & Energy Group (ASX:REZ) has extended gold mineralisation at its Gigante Grande prospect, confirming significant intercepts 1 km south of the existing resource and supporting a substantial exploration target.
- Six reverse circulation drillholes tested southern extensions
- Strong gold intercepts up to 1.96 g/t Au over 4 meters
- Supports exploration target of 160,000 to 500,000 ounces
- Mining lease application underway for southern extension
- Results underpin broader East Menzies growth strategy
Drilling Extends Gold Mineralisation 1 km South of Gigante Grande
Resources & Energy Group (ASX:REZ) has confirmed gold mineralisation well beyond the previously defined boundaries of its Gigante Grande resource at the East Menzies Gold Project in Western Australia. A six-hole reverse circulation (RC) drilling campaign completed in February 2026 returned multiple significant intercepts, notably 16 meters at 0.90 g/t Au including a high-grade 4-meter interval at 1.96 g/t Au, located approximately 1 kilometre south of the existing Mineral Resource.
This southern extension drilling validates the company’s earlier conceptual Exploration Target of 4 to 5 million tonnes grading between 1.3 and 3 g/t Au, equivalent to 160,000 to 500,000 ounces of gold. The maiden inferred resource at Gigante Grande, announced in September 2025, stands at 1.39 million tonnes at 0.91 g/t Au for 40,700 ounces, but these new results suggest considerable upside potential along the 7-kilometre strike length.
Key Intercepts Highlight Resource Growth Potential
Among the standout results, drillhole 26GGRC046 delivered a 16-meter intercept averaging 0.90 g/t Au from 152 meters depth, including a higher-grade 4 meters at 1.96 g/t Au. Nearby holes 26GGRC049 and 26GGRC050, drilled on the northern edge of the resource, intercepted 20 meters at 0.65 g/t Au and 16 meters at 0.53 g/t Au respectively, with internal higher-grade zones up to 1.66 g/t Au.
These intercepts confirm mineralisation in both fresh rock and saprolite zones, with the latter showing a distinct northwest structural orientation that differs from the main north-south lithological contact. This structural complexity may influence future targeting and resource modelling.
Supporting Mining Lease Application and Exploration Plans
The company is actively pursuing a mining lease application (MLA29/437) over the southern extension area, underpinned by these encouraging drilling results. Managing Director J. Daniel Moore emphasised the significance of the step-out intercepts, noting they "support our decision to apply for a Mining Lease over the area" and reinforce the prospectivity of the Gigante Grande system.
REZ plans to review the detailed assay results from 196 single-metre samples submitted following the initial composite analyses. A broader exploration program is also in the pipeline to test the full extent of the 7-kilometre strike, integrating surface sampling, geophysics, and recently acquired LIDAR data to refine structural and lithological models.
East Menzies Project Positioned for Multi-Asset Growth
Gigante Grande sits within REZ’s flagship East Menzies Gold Project, a sprawling 100+ km² tenure package hosting multiple gold deposits, including Goodenough and Maranoa. The company’s strategy leverages cashflow from a joint venture mining operation at Maranoa to self-fund exploration and resource development at Gigante Grande and Goodenough, aiming to build a diversified pipeline of gold assets.
Recent drilling at Goodenough has also confirmed resource extensions, complementing the growth narrative at East Menzies. The company’s integrated approach combines selective mining, trial processing, and targeted drilling campaigns to advance towards production milestones in the coming years.
Bottom Line?
As REZ advances its mining lease application and awaits detailed assay results, the Gigante Grande southern extension emerges as a key growth driver for the East Menzies project, with the potential to significantly expand the gold resource base.
Questions in the middle?
- Will the forthcoming single-metre assay results confirm higher-grade continuity in the southern extension?
- How will the structural complexity of the saprolite zone influence future resource modelling and mining methods?
- What timeline does REZ envisage for converting the exploration target into a defined mineral resource?
