R.W. Corkery Takes Helm of Environmental Approvals

Mount Hope Mining Limited (ASX:MHM) has appointed R.W. Corkery & Co Pty Limited to spearhead the environmental approvals process for its Mt Solitary Gold Project in New South Wales. This appointment initiates the Environmental Baseline and EIS Readiness Program, a foundational step designed to gather and assess the environmental data necessary to support the preparation of an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS); a key document for mining development consent in NSW.

Environmental Baseline and Approvals Coordination

The program will focus on establishing a robust environmental, technical, and regulatory framework to underpin future development approvals. R.W. Corkery’s role encompasses managing baseline environmental studies, coordinating specialist consultants, liaising with government agencies and local councils, and assembling the technical and planning information required for the EIS process. Early workstreams will cover biodiversity, groundwater, surface water, heritage, and meteorological monitoring, alongside identifying any long-lead or seasonally sensitive studies critical to project approvals.

Leveraging Local Expertise in the Cobar Basin

R.W. Corkery brings extensive experience in New South Wales mining projects, particularly within the Cobar Basin and western NSW mining districts. Their portfolio includes work on Tomingley Operations, Bowdens Silver, and the Hera Mine, among others. This regional familiarity is expected to provide Mount Hope with a practical understanding of the environmental and regulatory landscape specific to Mt Solitary.

Mt Solitary’s Exploration Target and Strategic Position

Mt Solitary remains the flagship asset within Mount Hope’s 606 km² landholding in the southern Cobar Basin. The project hosts a JORC (2012) Exploration Target estimated between 1.32 and 1.87 million tonnes at 1.0 to 1.35 grams per tonne gold, translating to roughly 42,500 to 81,400 ounces of gold. While this target is conceptual and lacks a defined Mineral Resource, ongoing drilling and geological modelling aim to bolster confidence in the deposit. The project sits along the district-scale MS2 Gold Corridor, a 7.5 km mineralised trend with multiple targets indicating potential for further discoveries.

Mount Hope’s Integrated Development Approach

Mount Hope’s Managing Director Fergus Kiley emphasised the appointment as a critical milestone in transitioning Mt Solitary from exploration towards development readiness. As drilling campaigns continue to refine the geological model and test resource growth opportunities, the initiation of environmental baseline and EIS readiness work ensures a proactive and structured approach to regulatory compliance. This dual focus on resource and environmental data collection aims to streamline future approvals and position the project for potential development.

Bottom Line?

Mount Hope’s engagement of R.W. Corkery signals a methodical push towards securing environmental approvals, setting a crucial foundation for any future mining development at Mt Solitary.

Questions in the middle?

  • How will the timeline for the Environmental Impact Statement align with upcoming drilling results?
  • What are the potential regulatory hurdles specific to the Cobar Basin that could affect project approvals?
  • To what extent can Mount Hope convert its Exploration Target into a defined Mineral Resource in the near term?
