WA Gold Commences Drilling at Bullabulling Shear Zone Extension
WA Gold has kicked off a 3,680m reconnaissance drilling program at its Bullabulling Project, aiming to test the northern continuation of the Bullabulling Shear Zone adjacent to a 4.5 million ounce gold mine.
- 46 aircore holes planned over eight traverses
- Focus on untested structural targets beneath transported cover
- VM Drilling to participate for equity, easing cash demands
- Sub Audio Magnetics survey set for Q3 2026
- Drilling complements imminent Abercromby assay results
Drilling Targets Extension of 4.5Moz Gold System
WA Gold Limited (ASX:WAU) has initiated a reconnaissance drilling campaign at its Bullabulling Project, located 30km west of Coolgardie in Western Australia. The program targets the interpreted northern extension of the Bullabulling Shear Zone (BBSZ), a major structural corridor hosting the adjacent Bullabulling Gold Mine, which contains over 4.5 million ounces of gold. This marks the first systematic drill test of high-priority targets identified through a recent geological and geophysical review.
The initial phase comprises 46 aircore holes totalling approximately 3,680 metres across eight strategically positioned drill traverses. These are designed to probe beneath transported cover, a significant exploration challenge in the region, and to follow up on anomalous gold intercepts from historical drilling that have never been fully tested. Notably, one priority target centres on drill hole BBRX1586, which ended in a low-grade gold anomaly (5m at 0.12 g/t Au) but was never followed up further east along the shear zone.
Equity-for-Drilling Deal Supports Exploration
In a vote of confidence in the project’s potential, VM Drilling, a leading Goldfields contractor, has agreed to undertake part of the drilling program in exchange for equity in WA Gold. This arrangement allows WA Gold to accelerate exploration activity while conserving cash, a strategic move as the company balances multiple workstreams.
WA Gold’s CEO Ben Pollard highlighted the significance of the program: “We believe the Bullabulling Shear Zone is one of Western Australia’s most prolific gold-bearing structures. Our recent review uncovered compelling targets beneath shallow cover that have seen little effective historical drilling. This program aims to test whether the mineralised system extends into our tenure.”
Complementary Exploration at Abercromby
The Bullabulling drilling campaign runs alongside ongoing activities at WA Gold’s Abercromby Gold Project, where assay results from the first three diamond drill holes are expected imminently. This dual-front approach aims to maintain steady newsflow and diversify exploration risk.
WA Gold’s tenure at Bullabulling covers extensions of the same north–south trending gold belt that hosts the Bullabulling Gold Mine. Geological interpretation suggests mineralisation continuity with stacked, shallow-dipping gold lodes, which are favourable for resource definition. Previous reconnaissance drilling at Bullabulling North has already confirmed near-surface high-grade gold, including intercepts such as 2m at 18.1 g/t Au from 34m and 4m at 10.12 g/t Au from 32m.
A Sub Audio Magnetics (SAM) geophysical survey is planned for Q3 2026 to refine structural targets and guide follow-up drilling, indicating WA Gold’s methodical approach to exploration.
Strategic Positioning in Eastern Goldfields
The Bullabulling Project’s location along the Great Eastern Highway provides excellent access to infrastructure. The project comprises 21 prospecting and exploration licences across several target areas, including Bullabulling North, West, and East. The geological setting and proximity to a multi-million ounce gold system underpin the project’s prospectivity.
With drilling underway and a contractor partnership easing capital demands, WA Gold is poised to test whether the Bullabulling Shear Zone’s mineralised system extends beneath transported cover into its ground, potentially adding significant value to its portfolio.
Bottom Line?
WA Gold’s Bullabulling drilling program could unlock new gold zones beneath cover, but results will be pivotal to confirm mineralisation continuity.
Questions in the middle?
- Will the drilling confirm the interpreted northern continuation of the Bullabulling Shear Zone?
- How will the equity-for-drilling deal with VM Drilling impact WA Gold’s cash flow and exploration pace?
- What insights will the upcoming Sub Audio Magnetics survey provide for refining drill targets?
