High-Grade Copper-Gold Mineralisation Emerges at Croydon
CZR Resources Ltd (ASX:CZR) has unveiled compelling early results from its 2026 exploration campaign, with standout high-grade copper and gold assays from its Croydon Gold Project in Western Australia's Pilbara region. Rock chip sampling at the Martin Gossan prospect returned exceptional grades including 16.7% copper, 1.18 g/t gold, 2.54% zinc, and 11.4 g/t silver, marking this volcanic massive sulphide (VMS) target as a fresh priority for drilling, having never been tested previously despite historical workings.
Complementing these surface results, initial assays from a 6,000-metre reverse circulation (RC) drilling program at the Top Camp prospect confirmed significant gold mineralisation. Notably, hole 26TCRC005 yielded 9 metres at 2.67 g/t gold from 166 metres, including a high-grade 6-metre interval at 3.82 g/t, extending the mineralised zone down-dip and to the south-west. The deposit remains open for expansion, with 32 holes completed so far in this campaign, designed to test over 650 metres of strike length.
Drilling and Sampling to Define Resource Potential
Diamond drilling is underway at Top Camp, aiming to provide critical structural, lithological, and metallurgical data to support resource modelling and future development stages. Meanwhile, RC drilling continues at the Bottom Camp prospect, targeting a 600-metre gold anomaly with eight holes planned. Following this, the rig will move east to test regional gold and copper targets at Martin and Murph, building on the encouraging rock chip results.
Surface sampling has been extensive across Croydon, with multiple phases of rock chip and soil sampling refining existing targets and identifying new ones. For example, breccia veining between Top Camp and Frank’s Patch returned rock chip gold grades up to 69.5 g/t, highlighting the prospectivity of untested structures in the area.
Yarraloola Iron Ore Potential Strengthened by Rock Chip Results
At Yarraloola, CZR has confirmed the presence of extensive Channel Iron Deposits (CID) similar to the nearby Robe Mesa deposit. Rock chip samples from Peter’s Creek and Darnells returned iron grades exceeding 54%, peaking at 60.05% Fe at Peter’s Creek. These findings come after a field reconnaissance trip and are supported by a commissioned LIDAR survey to map terrain and target the most prospective areas.
Importantly, some of the Peter’s Creek mineralisation lies within 5 km of the North-West Coastal Highway, potentially easing future access and development. CZR is actively exploring partnerships to advance this iron ore project, which benefits from proximity to existing infrastructure and operations in the Western Pilbara.
Yarrie and Buddadoo Projects Progressing with Drilling and Reviews
The Yarrie Project completed a 50-hole aircore drilling program testing a circular magnetic and gravity anomaly near the Archean Pilbara Craton boundary. Results are pending but the area holds promise for gold, copper, or rare earth elements. The western part of Yarrie also shows high-grade iron ore potential near BHP’s Yarrie and Shay Gap operations.
Meanwhile, the Buddadoo project is under active evaluation, focusing on its vanadium-titanium-magnetite deposit and the Edamurta copper prospect. CZR is consulting with the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions to progress exploration access, signalling intent to advance this asset alongside its Pilbara portfolio.
Strategic Regional Positioning and Next Steps
CZR’s Croydon project covers approximately 40 km of prospective strike within the Mallina Basin, situated about 50 km southwest of Northern Star Resources’ Hemi gold deposit, a 13.2 million-ounce discovery acquired through a $5 billion merger with De Grey Mining. This proximity adds strategic value to CZR’s exploration efforts, as the geological setting is analogous and prospective for significant mineralisation.
Looking ahead, CZR plans to complete pending assays from the ongoing RC drilling, continue diamond drilling to enhance geological understanding, and initiate metallurgical testwork at Top Camp. Heritage surveys have cleared the way for aircore drilling to test regional Hemi-style targets beneath cover, potentially opening new frontiers.
Bottom Line?
CZR’s 2026 exploration momentum at Croydon and Yarraloola is building a compelling case for resource growth, but pending assay results and metallurgical data will be crucial to confirm economic potential.
Questions in the middle?
- Will the Martin Gossan VMS target deliver significant resources once drilled?
- How will metallurgical testwork influence the development pathway at Top Camp?
- What partnerships might CZR secure to advance the Yarraloola iron ore project?
