Desert Minerals Launches Drilling to Expand Mt Monger Gold Resource

Desert Minerals is kicking off a 1,000-metre RC drilling campaign at its Mt Monger Gold Project, targeting extensions to a 16,400-ounce inferred resource at the Providence Prospect. The project’s strategic location near operating mines and multiple untested targets underpin the company’s growth ambitions.

Maiden Drilling Targets Resource Growth at Providence

Desert Minerals Limited (ASX:DSM) is poised to start its first-ever drilling campaign at the Mt Monger Gold Project, aiming to lift the existing inferred resource of 16,400 ounces at the Providence Prospect. The 1,000-metre reverse circulation (RC) program is designed to test shallow extensions to the current JORC (2012) resource, which stands at 204,700 tonnes grading 2.5 g/t gold. With approvals secured and a contractor appointed, the company is ready to mobilise the rig in August 2026.

High-Grade Intercepts Bolster Exploration Upside

The Providence Prospect boasts impressive historical intercepts, including 8 metres at 31.84 g/t gold from 66 metres, featuring a standout 1 metre at 190.06 g/t. Nearby, the Divine Prospect; just 330 metres from Providence; returned 3 metres at 17.00 g/t gold. These grades highlight the prospect’s potential to deliver high-value ounces at relatively shallow depths, with the resource remaining open to the northwest and southwest.

Strategic Location Adjacent to Operating Mines

Mt Monger’s location is a key asset, situated within a proven gold-producing corridor in Western Australia’s Eastern Goldfields Province. Providence lies just 900 to 1,700 metres from Black Cat Syndicate’s (ASX:BC8) Wombola open-pit operations and borders Vault Minerals’ (ASX:VAU) Daisy Milano Gold Mine to the south. This proximity to established infrastructure and mining activity reduces logistical hurdles and underscores the project’s exploration appeal.

Multiple Untested Targets and Broader Project Potential

Beyond Providence, Desert Minerals has identified several compelling targets through historical drilling, trenching, and recent geochemical surveys. Prospects such as Hoffmann and Samocynda offer additional opportunities for new gold discoveries. The company plans further ground surveys and geophysical campaigns to refine drill targets across both the Mt Monger North and South tenements, which also host potential Sedex/VHMS-style base metal mineralisation analogous to nearby deposits.

Strong Funding Position Supports Exploration Drive

Desert Minerals enters this drilling phase well-funded, with approximately $4 million in cash, bolstered by a recent $1 million placement at a premium to market. This financial strength supports not only the Mt Monger drilling program but also ongoing evaluation of new project and corporate opportunities aligned with its strategy to build a portfolio of high-quality mineral assets. The company’s Executive Chairman, Peretz Shapiro, emphasised the potential to grow the current gold inventory and explore multiple directions where the resource remains open.

Bottom Line?

Drilling results will be pivotal in defining whether Mt Monger’s high-grade potential translates into a materially larger resource, setting the stage for Desert Minerals’ next growth phase.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will the drilling confirm extensions to the Providence resource or reveal new high-grade zones?
  • How will assay results influence Desert Minerals’ prioritisation of other Mt Monger prospects?
  • Could the proximity to established mines accelerate project development timelines if exploration succeeds?
