Discovery of High-Grade Tungsten Mineralisation

Catalina Resources Limited (ASX:CTN) has spotlighted an impressive zone of tungsten mineralisation at its Tallering Project’s Santy Well Prospect in Western Australia. Historic rock-chip sampling returned extraordinary tungsten grades of up to 60.1% W (equivalent to 75.8% WO3), while reverse circulation (RC) drilling uncovered multiple intervals of high-grade tungsten, including a standout 17 metres at 0.178% WO3 from 79 metres depth.

The tungsten mineralisation is not an isolated find but part of a polymetallic system that also hosts gold, silver, and copper. This broad mineralisation was largely overlooked in past exploration efforts, which focused primarily on gold and base metals. Catalina’s renewed attention to tungsten introduces a critical mineral dimension to the project’s potential.

Historical Drilling Highlights and Mineral Continuity

Historical drilling results, notably from hole SRC006, revealed significant tungsten-bearing intervals: 17m at 0.178% WO3, including higher-grade sub-intervals such as 1m at 0.839% WO3. Additional holes SRC005 and SRC007 confirmed continuity of tungsten mineralisation across a 100-metre strike, with values including 6m at 0.200% WO3 and 3m at 0.154% WO3 respectively.

These tungsten zones coincide spatially with previously reported high-grade gold (up to 101 g/t), silver (up to 710 g/t), and copper (up to 7.04%) mineralisation, underscoring the polymetallic nature of the Santy Well system. The broad zones with tungsten concentrations exceeding 1,000 ppm suggest a sizeable target that warrants further testing.

Recent Fieldwork and Ongoing Technical Review

Last week, Catalina’s geological team conducted a reconnaissance field program, inspecting historical workings and collecting 24 rock-chip samples across prospective areas. These samples aim to validate historical data and refine the geological model. Results from this program are expected within the quarter, potentially providing fresh insights into the tungsten distribution and grade.

Executive Director Ross Cotton highlighted the significance of integrating tungsten into the project’s exploration narrative, noting that it “significantly enhances the exploration potential” of Santy Well. The company is actively reviewing all historical data alongside new field observations to better understand mineralisation controls and to prioritise future drilling targets.

Strategic Next Steps and Project Outlook

Catalina plans to complete a detailed technical review of all historical exploration data, incorporating new assay results and geological mapping. Heritage consultations and statutory approvals are underway to facilitate on-ground exploration. The company intends to design follow-up programs including detailed mapping, soil geochemical sampling, and targeted drilling contingent on review outcomes.

The Tallering Project resides within the Murchison region’s Tallering Greenstone Belt, a geological setting known for structurally controlled polymetallic mineralisation.
