Golden Horse Extends Hopes Hill Gold System Beyond 3km with High-Grade Drilling

Mining By Maxwell Dee 4 min read

Golden Horse Minerals has expanded the Hopes Hill gold system at Southern Cross to over 3 kilometres of strike, delivering multiple high-grade intercepts and advancing towards its inaugural Mineral Resource Estimate. Regional and copper project exploration also shows promising prospects.

  • Hopes Hill mineralised system extended beyond 3km strike
  • Multiple high-grade gold intercepts from shallow to deep drilling
  • Strong regional results at Hakes Find and Greenmount
  • Independent review highlights Sorrel Copper Project’s multi-metal potential
  • Robust cash position of approximately AUD 30.6 million

Hopes Hill Gold System Expands Significantly

Golden Horse Minerals (ASX:GHM) has pushed the boundaries of its flagship Southern Cross Gold Project with drilling extending the Hopes Hill mineralised system beyond 3 kilometres of strike length. This milestone not only enlarges the footprint of the deposit but also confirms continuity of high-grade gold mineralisation both along strike and at depth, underscoring the prospect’s growing stature in the Southern Cross region.

Key drill intercepts during the June quarter included standout results such as 16.0 metres at 6.8 g/t Au from 115 metres and 12.0 metres at 7.0 g/t Au from 278 metres, among others. Notably, deep diamond drilling beneath the historic Hopes Hill pit returned the deepest mineralised intersection to date: 40.2 metres at 1.5 g/t Au from 378.8 metres, including 24.2 metres at 2.2 g/t Au, suggesting the lode system thickens at depth and enhancing confidence in the project’s long-term growth potential.

Regional Exploration Delivers Encouraging Results

Beyond Hopes Hill, Golden Horse’s regional exploration program is gaining momentum. At Hakes Find, drilling confirmed shallow high-grade gold mineralisation extending over 500 metres of strike, while multi-element geochemistry highlighted strong correlations between gold and pathfinder elements like silver, arsenic, and lead, providing valuable targeting tools for future work.

Meanwhile, maiden reverse circulation drilling at Greenmount, approximately 5 kilometres south of Southern Cross, returned consistently strong gold intercepts, including 8 metres at 16.3 g/t Au and 3 metres at 37.6 g/t Au. These results, combined with promising rock chip samples at the nearby Withers prospect, reinforce the potential of Golden Horse’s broader landholding to host multiple significant gold systems. The company’s ongoing regional efforts include soil sampling programs over previously untested sections of the Frasers Shear Zone, aiming to generate new exploration targets.

Sorrel Copper Project Shows Multi-Metal Potential

In the Northern Territory, Golden Horse completed an independent prospectivity review of its Sorrel Copper Project, reaffirming the existing JORC Mineral Resource of 8.4 million tonnes at 1.1% copper (88,000 tonnes contained copper) as a solid base. The review identified numerous high-priority targets not only for copper but also cobalt, uranium, rare earth elements, and other base metals, highlighting the project’s diverse exploration upside. With more than 50 breccia pipes identified and only a handful historically drill tested, the Sorrel tenure presents substantial discovery potential.

Strong Financial Position Supports Aggressive Drilling

Golden Horse enters the September quarter with approximately AUD 30.6 million in cash, underpinning its ongoing multi-rig drilling campaign. The company safely completed over 50,000 metres of reverse circulation and diamond drilling during the first half of 2026, with a substantial pipeline of assay results expected to sustain news flow through the remainder of the year.

Managing Director Nicholas Anderson emphasised the company’s confidence in Hopes Hill becoming a company-defining asset, noting the system remains open in all directions and that every phase of drilling sharpens geological understanding and generates new targets. The imminent inaugural Mineral Resource Estimate for Hopes Hill, planned for the second half of 2026, will be a key milestone for investors.

Outlook and Upcoming Catalysts

Looking ahead, Golden Horse plans to continue its systematic drilling at Hopes Hill, advance geological modelling, and progress regional exploration at Greenmount, Bells, Lynette, and other prospects. Field activities at Sorrel are set to resume with soil and rock chip sampling ahead of the Northern Territory’s dry season drilling campaign. The company is also assessing strategic opportunities to enhance the value of the Sorrel project.

With multiple rigs turning and a robust balance sheet, Golden Horse is well positioned to maintain exploration momentum and unlock further value across its portfolio in the coming months.

Given the scale of the Hopes Hill system now emerging and the breadth of regional targets, the market will be watching closely as assay results and the maiden resource estimate crystallise the project’s potential.

Bottom Line?

Golden Horse’s expanding Hopes Hill system and diverse regional portfolio set the stage for a transformative resource update later this year.

Questions in the middle?

  • How will the upcoming Mineral Resource Estimate quantify the scale of the Hopes Hill deposit?
  • What follow-up drilling strategies will Golden Horse deploy to test the depth extensions suggested by recent deep intercepts?
  • How might the Sorrel Copper Project’s multi-metal targets influence the company’s strategic direction and capital allocation?
