Pilbara Gold Extends Significant Gold Mineralisation at Mt York
Pilbara Gold has reported significant new gold intersections below the current pit shell at its Mt York Project, suggesting potential for resource growth ahead of a prefeasibility study update.
- Significant deep gold intercepts at Main Hill and Gossan Hill
- Drilling confirms mineralisation remains open at depth
- Over 12,000m drilled so far in 50,000m 2026 program
- Resource update expected late 2026 ahead of PFS
- Six rigs active to accelerate drilling progress
Deep Drilling Reveals Wider Gold Zones at Mt York
Pilbara Gold (ASX:PGL) has punched through previous depth limits at its 2.1 million ounce Mt York gold project in Western Australia, with drill results confirming significant mineralisation well below the current pit shell. Notably, hole 26MYDD022 at Main Hill intercepted a broad 94m zone grading 0.88g/t Au from 275m, including a higher-grade 57m section at 1.00g/t Au. This hole extended mineralisation 100m deeper than the previously deepest hole, confirming wider and deeper gold zones outside the existing resource envelope.
At Gossan Hill, hole 26MYDD008 returned 21m at 1.42g/t Au from 228m, including 7m at 3.54g/t Au, further demonstrating that mineralisation remains open at depth. These results provide immediate encouragement for resource growth and support Pilbara Gold’s ongoing strategy to optimise the pit shell by driving it deeper.
Aggressive Drilling Campaign Underway
This drilling campaign is designed not only to extend mineralisation but also to upgrade resource confidence ahead of a maiden reserve estimate for the prefeasibility study (PFS), expected late in the calendar year. The PFS will incorporate these new data points to refine mine planning and economic assessments.
Project Background and Next Steps
Mt York’s resource currently stands at 2.1 million ounces of gold, contained within a continuous 4.2km BIF host rock. The project has previously undergone open pit mining, and Pilbara Gold is leveraging modern drilling techniques and assays, including Photon Assay at Intertek Genalysis, to improve resource definition. The company also plans to conduct an airborne electro-magnetic survey over the greater Mt York area to identify new sulphide targets that may host further mineralisation.
Alongside resource expansion drilling, metallurgical, geotechnical, and environmental studies are progressing to support the PFS. Pilbara Gold’s Managing Director Dr Peter Turner highlighted the consistent trend of resource growth with each drilling campaign, signaling confidence in the project’s upside potential.
While assay results from some holes remain pending, the early data reinforce the prospect of a deeper, more extensive gold system than previously modelled. This development could have meaningful implications for the scale and economics of the Mt York operation.
Bottom Line?
Pilbara Gold’s deep drilling success at Mt York sets the stage for a potentially larger resource and a more robust prefeasibility study later this year.
Questions in the middle?
- How will pending assay results influence the upcoming resource update?
- What impact could deeper mineralisation have on the mine’s ultimate pit design and economics?
- Will the planned airborne electro-magnetic survey identify new high-grade targets?
