PLC Resources Uncovers Potential Gold System at Rochefort and New Regional Target Corridor

PLC Resources' maiden drilling at Rochefort reveals anomalous gold with geochemical signs of a larger system nearby, while a new structural corridor expands regional exploration scope.

  • Maiden RC drilling at Rochefort returns anomalous gold up to 0.4 g/t
  • Geochemical vectors suggest a significant gold system northwest and at depth
  • Follow-up drilling planned under existing heritage and environmental approvals
  • High-resolution airborne survey identifies new regional gold structural corridor
  • Programs of Work approved for regional aircore drilling along corridor

Rochefort Drilling Points to Nearby Gold System

PLC Resources Limited (ASX:PLC) has delivered encouraging early results from its maiden reverse circulation (RC) drilling program at the Rochefort Gold Prospect, part of its Abbotts North Project in Western Australia’s Murchison region. While gold grades remain modest, peaking at 0.4 g/t, the presence of highly fractionated dolerites combined with albite alteration, sulphidation, and pathfinder element geochemistry strongly suggests the drilling intersected the fringes of a potentially significant gold system to the northwest and at depth.

Three of the five holes drilled intersected anomalous gold alongside these alteration and sulphide signatures, which are hallmarks of orogenic gold mineralisation typical of the Yilgarn Craton. The spatial trend of increasing gold values and alteration intensity towards the northwest underpins the company’s confidence in the target’s potential.

Follow-Up Drilling Ready to Roll

Importantly, PLC Resources is poised to accelerate exploration with follow-up RC drilling already planned and able to proceed under existing heritage and environmental approvals. The company is also awaiting additional multi-element assay results from recent samples, which will help refine targeting and vectoring towards the interpreted mineralised system. This near-term drill readiness offers a swift path to test the strengthening geochemical and structural trends identified.

New Regional Structural Corridor Expands Exploration Horizon

Separately, a high-resolution airborne magnetic and radiometric survey has unveiled a major, previously unrecognised gold target corridor along the eastern margin of the Abbotts Greenstone Belt. This large syncline fold structure, absent from prior geological maps, extends for more than 8 kilometres of strike within PLC’s tenure and aligns along strike with several New Murchison Gold (ASX:NMG) prospects, including the Crown Prince deposit, which hosts 2.2 million tonnes at 3.3 g/t gold.

The discovery of this structural corridor, coupled with a cross-cutting structural feature extending into New Murchison’s ground, provides a second regional target with significant potential. Programs of Work approvals are now in place for regional aircore drilling along this corridor, with planning underway. The structural setting is consistent with known controls on high-grade orogenic gold deposits in the Yilgarn Craton, adding weight to the company’s exploration thesis.

Strategic Dual-Front Exploration Approach

Executive Director Simon Phillips highlighted the dual-path forward: “We have confirmed the right host rock and alteration signatures at Rochefort, and the geochemical trends strengthen to the northwest and at depth, indicating we may have drilled on the edge of a significant gold mineralised system. At the same time, the newly discovered regional syncline fold structure offers a compelling exploration corridor along strike from established deposits.”

PLC Resources is fully funded to pursue both near-term drilling at Rochefort and regional exploration along the eastern margin corridor, reinforcing Abbotts North as a project with multiple discovery avenues. The company’s approach underscores the under-explored nature of the Abbotts Greenstone Belt and the potential for further significant gold discoveries.

Bottom Line?

PLC’s Rochefort results and new regional structural targets set the stage for an active exploration campaign, but the economic significance hinges on upcoming drill results and assay refinements.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will follow-up drilling at Rochefort confirm a substantial gold system beyond low-grade anomalism?
  • How will additional multi-element assays influence targeting and confidence in the interpreted mineralisation?
  • Can the newly identified regional structural corridor yield discoveries comparable to nearby New Murchison deposits?
