Prospect Resources has received significant assay results from new drill holes extending copper mineralisation beyond the current Nyungu Central resource boundary at its Mumbezhi Project in Zambia.
- Two new drill holes confirm high-grade copper outside existing resource
- Assays pending for 11 additional Phase 3 drill holes
- Results support potential increase in near-surface copper tonnage
- Ongoing and planned drilling targets regional expansion and resource upgrades
- Nyungu Central mineralisation remains open to the southeast
New High-Grade Copper Intercepts Extend Nyungu Central
Prospect Resources Limited (ASX:PSC) has confirmed that recent drilling at its flagship Nyungu Central deposit in Zambia’s Mumbezhi Copper Project has returned thick, high-grade copper intersections outside the existing Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE) boundary. Two of 13 Phase 3 diamond drill holes have been assayed, delivering standout results including 44.0 metres at 0.60% copper from 270 metres and 17.0 metres at 0.57% copper from 186 metres. These intercepts lie southeast of the current resource outline, suggesting the deposit's scale could grow further.
The company emphasised that assays are still pending for the remaining 11 holes, six of which have visible copper mineralisation and have been prioritised for testing. This leaves open the possibility of additional significant extensions to Nyungu Central’s mineralisation footprint. The new drill holes also align with a strong near-surface airborne electromagnetic anomaly, reinforcing the targeting model Prospect has been following.
Focused Drilling and Broader Exploration Strategy
The Phase 3 drilling campaign has so far completed 4,043 metres across 13 diamond holes at Nyungu Central, targeting shallow copper zones outside the existing Indicated and Inferred resource positions. Prospect is operating one diamond rig at Nyungu Central’s southern end and has recently started a second rig for exploratory drilling at Nyungu West, a nearby prospect within the Mumbezhi project area.
Additionally, a 6,000-metre infill diamond drilling program is slated to commence in late July to upgrade Inferred Mineral Resources to Indicated status, which is critical for advancing the project’s development studies. Prospect is also planning exploratory drilling at other regional targets including Kamafamba, Chipimpa, and Sharamba, with assay results from recent Sharamba drilling still awaited.
Context Within a Growing Copper Project
Nyungu Central already hosts a sizeable May 2026 Mineral Resource Estimate of 154.4 million tonnes at 0.42% copper (0.51% CuEq) at a 0.2% copper cut-off. The recent drill results indicate potential to add near-surface tonnage beyond this resource, which could enhance the project’s economics and scale. Prospect’s Managing Director Sam Hosack highlighted that the intercepts are relatively shallow and remain open to the southeast, pointing to further growth potential.
The Mumbezhi Copper Project sits in the prolific Central African Copperbelt, a region known for world-class copper deposits. Prospect holds a 90% interest in Mumbezhi, with the remaining 10% held by Global Development Corporation. The company has been steadily advancing exploration, resource upgrades, and metallurgical test work, with a scoping study planned for Q1 2027.
Technical Details and Quality Assurance
The announcement clarified that some intercepts shown in earlier figures were historical results from drilling between 2024 and 2025, while the orange-marked holes represent new data and those pending assay. Drill core sampling and assay procedures follow industry standards, with quality control measures including certified reference materials and blanks. Independent Competent Persons have verified the exploration results and resource estimates, ensuring technical robustness.
While downhole lengths are reported, true widths of mineralisation remain to be confirmed due to the complex fold structures and drill orientations. The company continues to integrate geophysical data, such as airborne electromagnetic surveys, to refine targeting and confirm extensions.
Bottom Line?
With only two assay results reported so far, the true extent of Nyungu Central's copper growth remains to be defined, making upcoming assay releases critical for assessing the deposit’s development trajectory.
Questions in the middle?
- Will pending assays confirm further high-grade extensions at Nyungu Central?
- How will new drilling at Nyungu West and other prospects impact Mumbezhi’s resource profile?
- What timeline is Prospect Resources targeting for completing the scoping study and advancing feasibility?
