Manhattan Gold Corporation has kicked off its first modern drilling in over 30 years at Nunavut’s Hook Lake Project, backed by expanded mineral rights and promising high-grade gold assays from surface sampling.
- 4,000m reverse circulation drilling underway at Hook Lake
- 15km² land tenure expansion to 338km² with 20-year mineral rights
- CA$250,000 government grant awarded for drilling program
- High-grade gold up to 20 g/t from Vanquish prospect channel sampling
- Cash balance at A$2 million following A$3 million placement
Maiden Drilling Program Revives Hook Lake Exploration
Manhattan Gold Corporation Limited (ASX:MHC) has mobilised a reverse circulation (RC) drilling rig to the Hook Lake Project in Nunavut, Canada, marking the first modern drilling campaign at the site in over three decades. The 4,000-metre program aims to test multiple gold and polymetallic targets including Jaws, Quantum, Lotus, Omega, and the volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) target Spectre. The initial focus is on the Jaws prospect, where historic drilling from 1988 suggested a sizeable but unverified resource of approximately 285,000 ounces of gold, though this estimate is not compliant with the JORC Code and remains to be confirmed by current drilling.
The program also targets high-grade vein systems at Quantum and Lotus, where rock chip sampling in 2025 returned precious metal assays as high as 16.75 g/t gold and 2,660 g/t silver. Meanwhile, the Spectre VMS lenses have not been drill tested beyond shallow depths since 1974, presenting fresh exploration opportunities within the Rankin-Ennadai Greenstone Belt, the second largest greenstone belt in Canada.
Expanded Land Rights and Regulatory Approvals Secure Exploration Tenure
Manhattan secured approval from the Kivalliq Inuit Association to expand its Inuit-owned land parcels AR-16 and AR-25 by 15 square kilometres, bringing the total exploration area to 338 km² with 100% mineral rights granted for 20 years. This expansion captures remaining Banded Iron Formation targets and important shear zones, consolidating Manhattan’s regional footprint to approximately 665 km². The project enjoys broad-based support from local Inuit communities and regulatory bodies, including the Nunavut Impact Review Board and the Arviat Community Lands and Resource Committee.
Complementing these tenure gains, the company received formal drilling permits valid for seven years from Canadian federal authorities and was awarded a CA$250,000 grant under Nunavut’s Discover, Invest, Grow Program. These approvals and funding underscore Nunavut’s status as a favourable jurisdiction for early-stage mineral exploration.
High-Resolution Surveys and Promising Surface Sampling at Vanquish
Subsequent to the quarter, Manhattan completed a comprehensive high-resolution LiDAR and orthophoto survey across the Hook Lake Project, delivering detailed digital terrain models and imagery to support structural interpretation and drill targeting. A high-resolution aeromagnetic survey covering over 12,600 line kilometres was also finalised, despite minor delays due to solar activity.
Channel sampling at the recently acquired Vanquish prospect, located some 80 kilometres west of Hook Lake, returned encouraging gold grades up to 20 g/t over narrow intervals, confirming historic till sampling that identified Vanquish as hosting the largest gold-arsenic anomaly in the Kaminak Greenstone Belt. These results add a new front to Manhattan’s exploration pipeline and will inform future drill targeting alongside ongoing geophysical and till sampling programs.
Tibooburra Project and Corporate Updates
On the Australian front, exploration continues at the Tibooburra Project in New South Wales, with Novo Resources Corporation advancing drill targeting at high-grade gold shoots within historic goldfields. Manhattan also announced the appointment of Jessamyn Lyons and Carla Healy as joint company secretaries, reflecting governance enhancements as the company scales its operations.
Financially, Manhattan entered the quarter with A$4.021 million in cash, spending primarily on establishing the Hook Lake camp and commencing drilling, leaving a balance of A$2.008 million at quarter-end. The company completed a strongly supported A$3 million placement earlier in the year, with shareholder approval secured for director participation shares. The board continues to monitor funding options as exploration progresses.
Next Steps in Exploration Campaign
Drilling is ongoing at Hook Lake, with assay results expected to be released periodically over the coming months. The integration of new LiDAR, aeromagnetic, till sampling, and channel sampling datasets will refine drill targets and help prioritise follow-up work. Manhattan’s ability to confirm and extend historic gold mineralisation at Jaws and other targets will be pivotal in defining Hook Lake’s potential as Nunavut’s next significant gold district.
Bottom Line?
Manhattan’s maiden drilling and expanded tenure at Hook Lake set the stage for critical assay results that will shape the project’s future trajectory.
Questions in the middle?
- Will assay results confirm and extend the historic Jaws resource estimate?
- How will the expanded land tenure influence the scale and focus of future exploration?
- What funding strategies will Manhattan pursue to sustain its exploration momentum beyond the current cash runway?
