Orpheus Uranium Advances Drilling and Strategic Acquisitions with $6M Cash Reserves

Mining By Maxwell Dee 3 min read

Orpheus Uranium is gearing up for its first drilling program at the Frome Project while expanding its foothold in South Australia and Western Australia, supported by a solid $6 million cash position.

  • First drilling program set for Frome Project in Q3 2026
  • Strategic acquisition expands Marree Project by 2,513 km²
  • Oobagooma Project acquisition extended to October 2026
  • Heritage and regulatory approvals progressing across portfolio
  • Cash and liquid investments total $6.01 million

Frome Project Drilling to Kick Off in September

Orpheus Uranium (ASX:ORP) is finally moving from planning to action at its flagship Frome Project in South Australia, with an inaugural drilling program slated to begin in the September quarter. The program will include up to 35 rotary mud drill holes over approximately 5,750 metres, targeting a 10-kilometre palaeochannel system that has shown promising uranium mineralisation in historical drilling. This step follows extensive heritage surveys conducted with the Adnyamathanha people under a new Native Title Mining Agreement and the securing of government regulatory approvals.

Marree Project Expansion Consolidates Regional Presence

In a significant portfolio move, Orpheus executed a binding agreement to acquire seven exploration licences from Adavale Resources, adding roughly 2,513 square kilometres to its Marree Project tenure. This acquisition not only consolidates Orpheus’ district-scale uranium project in South Australia’s Northern Flinders Ranges but also brings with it Native Title Mining Agreements critical for advancing exploration. The newly acquired ground includes historical drillholes with uranium anomalism exceeding 100 ppm eU3O8, enhancing the project’s exploration upside.

Oobagooma Acquisition Completion Delayed to October

Orpheus continues to pursue its strategic entry into Western Australia’s uranium scene through the Oobagooma Project. The acquisition completion date has been extended twice, now set for 27 October 2026, to finalise third-party agreements. The project covers 271 square kilometres on the northern margins of the Canning Basin and is notable for its extensive historical data and multiple untested uranium roll fronts. Orpheus plans to commence geological and exploration-target modelling post-acquisition, aiming to define a maiden Exploration Target by the end of 2026.

Ongoing Progress Across Other South Australian Projects

Beyond Frome and Marree, Orpheus is advancing its Pirie Basin and Radium Hill South projects. At Pirie Basin, the company is engaged in stakeholder consultations and regulatory processes to enable advanced exploration, targeting a decision-to-drill milestone in the second half of 2026. Radium Hill South, located near the historic Radium Hill uranium mine, has completed heritage surveys and obtained regulatory approvals, with geological modelling underway to refine drill targets.

Northern Territory and Corporate Updates

In the Northern Territory, Orpheus is progressing its Mount Douglas Project with ongoing interpretation of high-resolution gravity survey data, preparing for more extensive fieldwork. On the corporate front, shareholders approved all resolutions at the April general meeting, including the issuance of shares related to the Oobagooma acquisition. The company ended the quarter with $6.01 million in combined cash and liquid investments, having spent $356,000 on exploration activities. Notably, Orpheus also sold 2.5 million shares in Prospect Resources to fund its Marree acquisition.

Bottom Line?

Orpheus Uranium is poised to translate its strategic land acquisitions and regulatory groundwork into tangible drilling results, with upcoming programs at Frome and Marree set to test promising uranium targets amid a supportive cash position.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will drilling at Frome confirm the extensive uranium mineralisation suggested by historical data?
  • How will regulatory reforms in uranium exploration across Australian jurisdictions impact Orpheus' project timelines?
  • Can the Oobagooma acquisition close smoothly by October, and what exploration potential will it unlock for Orpheus?
