Exploration Footprint Grows Along Fertile Copper Corridor
Patriot Resources Limited (ASX:PAT) has significantly expanded its copper exploration footprint at the Tonic prospect in Zambia, stretching its target corridor to approximately 5.5 kilometres southeast. This extension follows recent ground magnetics and induced polarisation (IP) surveys that have unveiled two new high-priority drill targets, Blocks 1 and 2, within the Mumbwa–Kitumba mineralised corridor. These targets lie within a district-scale structural zone controlled by the Mumbwa Fault Zone (MFZ), which hosts prolific deposits including Sinomine’s Kitumba copper project, a 109.2 million tonne resource grading 0.96% copper.
New Targets Display IOCG-Affinity Signatures
Both Blocks 1 and 2 exhibit hydrothermal alteration patterns and structural features consistent with an iron oxide copper gold (IOCG) affinity, suggesting they are part of a fertile intrusive-related copper system. Block 1 is interpreted as a syenite-hosted target with structurally controlled copper-silver sulphide shoots indicated by high IP chargeability anomalies coincident with magnetic lineaments. Block 2, meanwhile, is a syenite–sandstone/shale target showing iron-rich alteration, quartz–carbonate veining, and evidence of hydrothermal fluid flow, with IP anomalies extending down to 160 metres depth over widths of 20–60 metres. This supports the potential for a continuous IOCG-style copper-silver-cobalt mineralised corridor.
Strategic Location Near Established Infrastructure
Located just 18 kilometres from Sinomine’s Kitumba copper project, which is commissioning a processing facility and smelter in 2026, the expanded footprint benefits from proximity to established infrastructure. This rare infrastructure pathway adds strategic value to Patriot’s early-stage discovery, which has already yielded promising drill results at Tonic, including intervals of 17 metres at 0.41% copper and 4.7 g/t silver from surface, and higher-grade zones at depth. The polymetallic nature of the system is further evidenced by cobalt intercepts, reinforcing the prospect’s potential.
Building a Pipeline for Follow-Up Drilling
Patriot plans to advance these new targets alongside Phase 2 drilling at Tonic, leveraging its established Zambian operating base for efficient exploration. The company aims to test the hypothesis of a multi-centre copper system extending southeast from Tonic, with the new geophysical anomalies providing compelling drill targets. The structural complexity, with intersecting NE–SW and NW–SE faults, creates favourable zones for fluid focusing and mineralised shoot development.

Zambia ranks third on the Fraser Institute’s African Investment Attractiveness Index and is the world’s seventh largest copper producer, targeting 3 million tonnes per year by 2031. Copper production accounted for 15% of Zambia’s GDP in 2025, underscoring the country’s importance as a global copper jurisdiction.
