Mining Concession Application Marks Regulatory Milestone

Resouro Strategic Metals (ASX:RAU) has lodged a Mining Concession Application for its Novo Mundo Gold Project in Mato Grosso, Brazil, representing a pivotal regulatory step toward converting its current trial mining operation into a fully licensed, long-term producing asset. The application, submitted on 16 July 2026 by Resouro’s Brazilian subsidiary Ison do Brasil Mineração Ltda., covers approximately 930 hectares under ANM Process No. 866.035/2009.

CEO Christopher Eager described the submission as a reflection of the company’s steady permitting progress in the Alta Floresta Gold Province, a prolific gold-producing region. The approval of this application would authorize commercial mining, enabling Novo Mundo to transition from trial operations to sustainable production.

Exploration and Trial Mining Activities Accelerate Project Development

Throughout 2026, Resouro has significantly advanced exploration and development at Novo Mundo. Activities included diamond drilling at the Mineiro target, with two holes intersecting hydrothermal alteration and sulphides; assay results are awaited. Complementary work involved UAV surveys, geological mapping, rock and channel sampling, and re-logging of historical drill core to integrate legacy data from previous operators such as Rio Tinto Zinco and Nexa Resources.

The company also conducted trial mining and logistics testing under an existing Guia de Utilização permit, transporting stockpiled mineralized material to processing facilities. These efforts culminated in the Mining Concession Application submission, marking a key permit progression milestone.

Strategic Agreements Support Cash Flow and Development

Resouro’s Binding Mining and Processing Agreement with Buri Gold Mineração Ltda. and Future Mining Ltda. has underpinned the trial mining phase by enabling these partners to fund capital and operating costs. This arrangement aims to generate early cash flow without diverting capital from Resouro’s flagship Tiros Titanium and Rare Earth Elements Project in Minas Gerais.

Earlier in July, Resouro announced a capital raise to support pre-feasibility and metallurgical work at Tiros, complementing the Novo Mundo development trajectory. The company’s dual-project approach balances advancing Novo Mundo’s gold potential while progressing Tiros’ significant rare earth and titanium resources.

Pending Assay Results and Next Steps

While the Mining Concession Application lodgement is a major regulatory step, the timing of approval remains uncertain, and assay results from recent drilling will be critical to further defining the project’s mineral resources. Resouro plans to announce these results once verified by its Qualified Person, Rodrigo Mello, who has reviewed the technical data underpinning the project’s prospectivity.

The company’s progress in integrating historical exploration data with ongoing fieldwork positions Novo Mundo as a promising gold development in Brazil’s Alta Floresta province. The coming months will be pivotal as Resouro navigates permitting outcomes and advances toward commercial production.

Bottom Line?

Novo Mundo’s transition from trial mining to licensed production hinges on regulatory approval and pending assay results, setting the stage for Resouro’s next growth phase.

Questions in the middle?

  • When will the Mining Concession Application receive regulatory approval?
  • How will pending assay results impact resource estimates and project economics?
  • What are the operational timelines for scaling from trial mining to full production?
