BlinkLab Raises A$17.5M, Secures US Patent, Advances FDA Autism Study and ADHD Research

Healthcare By Ada Torres 4 min read

BlinkLab has bolstered its war chest with a A$17.5 million placement, secured a foundational US patent valid through 2041, and made significant progress in its FDA autism diagnostic trial and European ADHD study.

  • A$17.5 million placement completed to fund regulatory and commercial programs
  • Foundational US patent granted for remote neurobehavioural testing technology
  • FDA 510(k) pivotal autism study recruitment ongoing with completion expected by end 2026
  • European ADHD study recruitment complete; results imminent
  • New research collaborations expand platform into therapy evaluation and global markets

Capital Raise Strengthens Balance Sheet Ahead of Key Milestones

BlinkLab Limited (ASX:BB1) has successfully completed a A$17.5 million placement at A$0.65 per share, attracting sophisticated and institutional investors. The capital injection is earmarked to fund the completion of the pivotal FDA 510(k) autism diagnostic study for its BlinkLab Dx1 platform, European regulatory approvals, expansion of its ADHD program, and ongoing platform development. This funding boost positions BlinkLab with a healthy cash balance of approximately A$17.9 million as at 30 June 2026, providing a runway of nearly seven quarters based on current operating cash burn.

Foundational US Patent Secures Core Technology Until 2041

A major intellectual property milestone was achieved with the granting of a foundational US patent (No. 12,653,444 B2) covering BlinkLab’s remote neurobehavioural testing technology. This patent, licensed exclusively from Princeton University, protects the company’s audiovisual stimulus-based assessment methods, including conditioned eyeblink responses and prepulse inhibition, until 2041. The patent underpins BlinkLab’s competitive moat in the US healthcare market and strengthens its long-term commercial prospects.

FDA Autism Study Progresses with Patient Recruitment Underway

BlinkLab’s flagship FDA 510(k) pivotal validation study for its autism diagnostic aid continues to advance steadily. Recruitment and testing remain underway across a clinical network of leading US autism centres, with patient enrolment expected to conclude by the end of calendar 2026. This trial, conducted in partnership with IQVIA, is critical for regulatory clearance and eventual commercialisation in the US. The company’s CEO, Dr Henk-Jan Boele, highlighted the trial’s priority status and anticipation for upcoming ADHD study results.

European ADHD Study Completes Recruitment, Data Analysis Imminent

In Europe, BlinkLab has completed recruitment and data collection for its ADHD study in collaboration with Mental Care Group, involving approximately 375 child participants. The dataset has passed quality control and is ready for analysis, with results expected shortly. This study builds on a 2024 pilot and supports the development of BlinkLab’s Dx2 ADHD diagnostic technology, which is slated for launch in the US. The capital raised earlier in the quarter will also underpin this expansion.

Expanding Clinical Applications Through New Collaborations

Beyond diagnostics, BlinkLab is broadening its platform’s utility into therapy evaluation and global research. A new partnership with Erasmus University Medical Center in the Netherlands is exploring treatment response monitoring in Activated PI3K Delta Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder linked to neurodevelopmental conditions. This collaboration aims to develop digital endpoints for pharmaceutical studies, a burgeoning area for BlinkLab’s sensorimotor neurometric platform.

Additionally, a two-year research collaboration with Ecuador’s ESPOCH is underway to study autism, sensorimotor function, nutrition, and gut microbiota in a South American context. BlinkLab provides its smartphone-based platform and technical support, retaining ownership of the technology and data, thereby expanding its global research footprint.

Investor Engagement and Market Positioning

During the quarter, BlinkLab’s leadership actively engaged with investors across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region, participating in events such as the Ignite Investment Summits in Singapore and Hong Kong, and Stocks in the Vines in Victoria. These efforts aim to raise the company’s profile among institutional and sophisticated investors as it approaches key clinical and regulatory milestones.

Bottom Line?

BlinkLab’s strengthened balance sheet and intellectual property position set the stage for critical regulatory readouts and commercial expansion, but the timing of FDA clearance and market adoption remain key uncertainties.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will the FDA 510(k) autism study deliver the sensitivity and specificity required for regulatory approval by year-end 2026?
  • How might the foundational US patent influence BlinkLab’s competitive positioning against emerging digital neurodiagnostic platforms?
  • What commercial opportunities could emerge from expanding the platform into therapy evaluation and global research collaborations?
