CSIRO Partnership Targets Lithium Exploration Efficiency
Tambourah Metals Ltd (ASX:TMB) has initiated a collaboration with Australia’s national science agency, CSIRO, to harness remote sensing and machine learning in its quest for lithium within the Pilbara region. This partnership aims to refine the prioritisation of lithium pegmatite targets across Tambourah’s extensive portfolio, which spans over 400 square kilometres of tenure historically known for alluvial tin and tantalum deposits.
At the heart of this collaboration is the Coondina Lithium Project, where a high-resolution hyperspectral survey is underway, courtesy of HyVista. This survey promises a detailed dataset to better understand the largely unexplored pegmatite terrane, which hosts mineral assemblages including tin, tantalum, niobium, gadolinium, zirconium, and beryllium. These pegmatites are believed to be the source of historic alluvial minerals but have not been systematically examined for lithium until now.
Integrating Geological Insight with Advanced Technology
Tambourah’s geological expertise, combined with CSIRO’s technical capabilities, will feed into machine learning algorithms designed to produce lithium pegmatite prospectivity maps. These maps will integrate surface sampling and remote sensing data to highlight areas with the highest potential, enabling Tambourah to focus exploration efforts more efficiently and reduce both time and costs associated with progressing priority targets.

The initiative is supported by CSIRO’s Kick-Start program, which provides funding and access to research expertise for Australian start-ups and SMEs.
