AuMEGA Metals has kicked off its 2026 diamond drilling campaign at the Isle aux Morts Granite and Cape Ray West, probing previously untested targets along the Cape Ray Shear Zone in Newfoundland.
- Diamond drilling begins on never-before-drilled Isle aux Morts Granite and Cape Ray West
- Targets identified through integrated geological, geochemical, and geophysical work
- Drilling aims to validate structural and mineralisation models along Cape Ray Shear Zone
- Program to shift to Bunker Hill area after initial drilling phase
- Company controls large land package with significant existing gold resources
Drilling Commences on Untested Structural Targets
AuMEGA Metals Ltd (ASX:AAM) has initiated its 2026 diamond drilling program at the Isle aux Morts Granite (IAMG) and Cape Ray West targets in Newfoundland and Labrador, marking the first-ever drilling in these areas. These sites sit along the Cape Ray Shear Zone (CRSZ), a major geological feature that hosts multiple gold deposits, including AuMEGA's own mineral resources and Equinox Gold's Valentine Gold Project.
The drilling campaign aims to test a series of structural, geochemical, and geophysical targets that emerged from a comprehensive regional exploration program. By integrating geological mapping, surface geochemistry, and geophysical data, AuMEGA has identified priority corridors and anomalies adjacent to the IAMG, which had previously seen limited exploration activity.
Strategic Focus on Structural and Geochemical Anomalies
The IAMG and Cape Ray West targets represent early-stage opportunities situated within a highly prospective structural setting. Cape Ray West lies several kilometres southwest of AuMEGA’s existing mineral resources and is considered promising due to its position within the CRSZ and supporting geological indicators. The initial drill holes are designed to establish subsurface geology, test interpreted structures, and evaluate alteration and mineralisation presence.
Following this initial phase, AuMEGA plans to advance drilling to the Bunker Hill area later in the summer, continuing its systematic approach to exploring its extensive 110-kilometre land package along the Cape Ray-Valentine Shear Zone.
Company Outlook and Exploration Pipeline
Managing Director and CEO Sam Pazuki emphasised the significance of commencing drilling on targets developed from several seasons of integrated exploration work. He described the program as a disciplined, evidence-based step toward understanding the geological concepts and assessing the potential for more extensive follow-up.
AuMEGA’s mineral resource currently stands at 6.2 million tonnes at 2.25 grams per tonne gold (450,000 ounces indicated) and 3.4 million tonnes at 1.44 grams per tonne gold (160,000 ounces inferred). The company’s strategic goal remains making a major discovery in Newfoundland’s underexplored gold district.
With a strong financial backing from institutional investors including Condire Investors LLC and strategic support from B2Gold Corp, AuMEGA is well-positioned to execute its expanded 2026 exploration plans. The recent drilling campaign follows a C$30.1 million capital raise earlier this year, which fully funded the exploration push across key targets including Cape Ray, Isle aux Morts, and Bunker Hill.
Bottom Line?
AuMEGA’s maiden drilling at Isle aux Morts Granite tests fresh ground in a proven gold district, setting the stage for potential discoveries that could reshape its resource base.
Questions in the middle?
- Will assay results from IAMG and Cape Ray West confirm the presence of economically viable mineralisation?
- How will the upcoming Bunker Hill drilling phase complement findings from the current program?
- Can AuMEGA leverage its sizeable land position along the Cape Ray Shear Zone to make a significant new gold discovery?
