High-Grade Gold Assays Highlight Marengo Exploration Potential
Eastern Resources Limited (ASX:EFE) has delivered encouraging early results from its maiden fieldwork at the Marengo Gold Project in Queensland, with rock chip samples returning assays as high as 12.3 grams per tonne (g/t) gold. The reconnaissance program, completed in the June quarter, focused on mapping and sampling historic workings across three priority areas; One Mile Mountain, Sulphide Shaft, and Seymour’s Reef; where over half of the known historic workings lie along a 3-kilometre strike.
The assay results, received post-quarter, confirm widespread gold mineralisation with 54 out of 60 samples exceeding 0.1 g/t gold. Notably, two samples surpassed 10 g/t, and ten others topped 5 g/t, underscoring the potential for shallow, high-grade quartz vein-hosted gold deposits. The discovery of a 1.7-kilometre continuous vein system at the previously unmapped Reza’s Reef prospect adds a significant new target for follow-up exploration.
Structural Complexity Suggests Intrusive Gold System
Field observations indicate that the Marengo mineralisation is structurally controlled and likely related to an intrusive source at depth, consistent with an intrusion-related gold-copper system (IRGCS). Ground magnetics and induced polarisation surveys have identified intense faulting, which may have played a key role in localising high-grade mineralisation. The presence of multiple veining orientations, including north-south and northeast-southwest trends, suggests a complex structural history that could enhance exploration upside.
Eastern Resources’ approach of combining systematic 25m by 25m spaced sampling over a 750-hectare initial target zone aims to refine drill targets and test the continuity of mineralisation along strike and at depth.
Nowa Nowa Iron Project Advances Environmental Approvals
While exploration at Marengo gains momentum, Eastern Resources continues to progress the Environmental Effects Assessment (EES) approval process for its Nowa Nowa Iron Project in Victoria. This comprehensive permitting pathway covers all planning and operating licences required for project development and operation. No exploration activity was reported during the quarter for the Nowa Nowa Copper Project or the company’s lithium assets in Western Australia.
Financial Position and Strategic Review
Eastern Resources ended the quarter with approximately $3.27 million in cash and cash equivalents, providing a solid financial base to support ongoing exploration and development activities. Related party payments amounted to $125,000 for directors’ fees and consulting services at commercial rates.
In addition to advancing existing projects, the company engaged in commercial discussions and reviewed several new opportunities during the period, signalling a proactive stance on portfolio expansion.
Bottom Line?
Marengo’s high-grade assays and structural complexity position Eastern Resources for a significant exploration phase, but confirmation through drilling and regulatory progress at Nowa Nowa will be critical next steps.
