Moonlight Resources Launches 2,500m RC Drilling at High-Grade Goldfinger Prospect

Moonlight Resources has kicked off its inaugural Reverse Circulation drilling at the Goldfinger Prospect within the Clermont Gold Project, aiming to validate and extend historical high-grade gold mineralisation from the late 1980s.

  • Maiden 2,500m RC drilling at Goldfinger commenced
  • Historical drilling includes peak assay of 44.5 g/t Au over 1m
  • Program targets shallow, high-grade mineralisation extensions
  • Part of fully funded 20,000m Clermont drilling campaign
  • Drilling follows recent Phase 2 work at Leo Grande Prospect

Drilling Starts on High-Grade Goldfinger Target

Moonlight Resources Ltd (ASX:ML8) has begun its maiden Reverse Circulation (RC) drilling program at the Goldfinger Prospect, a priority target within its 100%-owned Clermont Gold Project in Queensland. The 2,500-metre campaign aims to test and extend shallow gold mineralisation first identified by Noranda/Plutonic in the late 1980s and early 1990s, which returned multiple high-grade intercepts including a standout 44.5 grams per tonne (g/t) gold assay over one metre.

Historical Data Highlights Goldfinger's Potential

Goldfinger benefits from a substantial historical dataset comprising costean sampling, RC drilling, and diamond drilling. Twelve historical drill holes graded above 1 g/t Au, with notable intercepts such as 8 metres at 8.35 g/t Au at surface and 4 metres at 13.87 g/t Au from 12 metres depth. These results underline the prospect’s near-surface, high-grade potential, which remains largely untested by modern exploration techniques.

Program Objectives and Broader Clermont Strategy

The current drilling program is designed to verify the width, grade, and continuity of known mineralisation, while testing strike extensions both north and south, as well as down-dip continuity. Moonlight also plans to improve drill density across the mineralised corridor and assess the presence of additional parallel lodes within the broader target area. This campaign forms part of a fully funded 20,000-metre drilling program across the Clermont Project, complementing recent Phase 2 drilling at the Leo Grande Prospect, where assay results are pending, and ongoing work at the Peak Downs copper prospect.

Exploration Momentum Builds Across Clermont

Managing Director Greg Starr emphasised Goldfinger’s significance, noting the exceptional grades identified historically and the opportunity to apply modern techniques to better understand the mineralised system’s scale and continuity. The simultaneous drilling at Goldfinger and Peak Downs signals a concerted effort to advance multiple priority targets within the Clermont portfolio, building on the momentum established by recent successes at Leo Grande.

Next Steps and Market Implications

Drilling at Goldfinger is expected to wrap up in the coming weeks, with assay results to be released progressively. These results will be critical in validating historical data and refining geological models to support potential future Mineral Resource estimates. Meanwhile, Moonlight’s broader strategy remains focused on systematic evaluation and advancement of its district-scale assets, including rare earth and uranium projects in the Northern Territory and Western Australia.

Bottom Line?

Moonlight’s maiden drilling at Goldfinger marks a pivotal step in unlocking Clermont's high-grade gold potential, with assay results set to clarify the prospect's resource upside.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will the new drilling confirm the exceptional historical grades at Goldfinger?
  • How might results from Goldfinger influence the timing and scale of a maiden resource estimate at Clermont?
  • What insights will the pending Leo Grande assays provide in context with Goldfinger’s results?
