Canadian Phosphate has secured a five-year exploration permit for its Wapiti Phosphate Project and commenced a 3,000m drilling campaign, while progressing the pending acquisition of the Diamond Mountain Project in Utah. A $5.2 million capital raise positions the company to accelerate its North American phosphate ambitions.
- Five-year exploration permit secured for Wapiti Project
- 3,000m drilling program underway to update JORC resource by Q4 2026

- Renounceable rights issue raised A$5.2 million including director participation
- New board appointments to support mine-to-market strategy
Wapiti Project Drilling Underway with Permit Secured
Canadian Phosphate (ASX:CP8) has locked in a critical five-year exploration permit for its 100%-owned Wapiti Phosphate Project in British Columbia, enabling an immediate start to a 3,000-metre diamond drilling campaign. This program, managed by Dahrouge Geological Consulting, aims to test lateral and depth extensions of the phosphate horizon and validate the 2025 Exploration Target. The drilling results will underpin an updated JORC Mineral Resource Estimate slated for Q4 2026, supporting the company's ambitions to develop single super phosphate (SSP) fertiliser production and explore applications in lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery materials using Novophos patented technology.
The permit also authorises up to 56 drill holes and the extraction of a 500-tonne bulk sample for advanced metallurgical testing, a key step for assessing Wapiti phosphate's suitability in both fertiliser and battery markets. This bulk sample will also inform the company's strategy to establish Canada's only domestic phosphate fertiliser supply, a move gaining urgency amid recent geopolitical tensions affecting global phosphate availability.
Diamond Mountain Acquisition to Boost US Footprint
In a significant expansion of its North American portfolio, CP8 entered a binding agreement during the quarter to acquire the 100%-owned Diamond Mountain Phosphate Project in Utah from Revival Gold and Utah Minerals Resources. This advanced sedimentary phosphate asset sits adjacent to Simplot’s 4Mtpa Vernal Phosphate Mine, in a well-established mining jurisdiction with existing infrastructure.
The project hosts a substantial NI 43-101 Foreign Estimate of 26.8 million tonnes of Measured and Indicated Resources and 23.1 million tonnes of Inferred Resources grading 19.67% P₂O₅, although these figures are yet to be converted to JORC standards. CP8 plans a detailed technical review and verification drilling to support this conversion post-acquisition, expected to complete in Q3 2026 following assignment of the State lease. This acquisition offers exploration upside and potential development acceleration relative to earlier-stage assets.
Capital Raise Strengthens Balance Sheet and Shareholder Support
Backing its growth plans, Canadian Phosphate successfully completed a renounceable rights issue and follow-on placement raising A$5.2 million before costs. The fully subscribed rights issue raised A$4.85 million, with strong participation from existing shareholders including all directors, complemented by a A$350,000 follow-on placement attracting new investors. These funds will finance the Diamond Mountain acquisition, ongoing exploration at Wapiti and Fernie projects, and provide working capital.
Governance Boost with Experienced Appointments
CP8 bolstered its leadership with the appointment of Peter Doyle as Non-Executive Director and Robert Bell to its Strategic Advisory Board. Doyle brings over 30 years of mining industry experience, including expertise in exploration, development, and production, with a strong Canadian operational background. Bell adds deep knowledge in logistics and bulk commodity markets, having held senior roles at Teck Resources and Luscar Ltd., enhancing CP8’s mine-to-market strategy, particularly in freight and distribution planning.
Additional Project Developments and Market Engagement
Preparations continue for extracting a 10,000-tonne bulk sample from the Barnes Project in British Columbia, aimed at geological and operational insights to support future mine planning. Parallel exploration studies at the Fernie Project seek to refine targets and assess phosphate potential across the district.
CP8 is also advancing a single superphosphate market development program across Western Canada, importing SSP for trials with potential offtake partners. This initiative is designed to demonstrate SSP’s agronomic benefits as a cost-effective source of phosphate, sulfur, and calcium, potentially paving the way for domestic SSP production.
As of 30 June 2026, the company held A$6.579 million in cash, underpinning a solid working capital position to execute its exploration and development agenda. CP8 also retains access to approximately 23,000 tonnes of phosphate inventory in Montana.
Bottom Line?
With drilling underway at Wapiti and the Utah acquisition pending, CP8 is positioned for a pivotal year, but execution risks and regulatory approvals remain key hurdles.
Questions in the middle?
- Will CP8 complete the Diamond Mountain acquisition on schedule in Q3 2026?
- How will updated JORC resource estimates at Wapiti impact project valuation and financing options?
- Can CP8 successfully convert exploration advances into commercial phosphate production amid volatile global supply conditions?
