Llahuin Drilling Reveals Extensive Porphyry System
FMR Resources (ASX:FMR) has delivered promising assay results from its maiden diamond drilling campaign at the Southern Porphyry target within the Llahuin Project joint venture in central Chile. The Phase I program intersected broad zones of copper-gold-molybdenum mineralisation, with standout results including 124 metres at 0.31% copper equivalent (CuEq) from 258 metres in drillhole 25LHDD071, featuring a higher-grade 20-metre interval at 0.48% CuEq.
Additional holes returned significant intervals such as 104 metres at 0.16% CuEq from 522 metres and 24 metres at 0.14% CuEq from 156 metres, with a narrow but higher-grade 4 metres at 0.78% CuEq also recorded. These intersections are characterised by gold-dominant mineralisation with associated molybdenum anomalism, suggesting the drilling is positioned above or on the periphery of a concealed porphyry core yet to be tested.
Geological and geophysical integration is underway, combining multi-element geochemistry, petrography, and downhole geophysics to refine vectors towards the higher-temperature copper-molybdenum core. The company plans to finalise Phase II drill targets in the coming months, aiming to test the interpreted porphyry centre in Q4 2026.
La Lorena Acquisition Advances with High-Grade Sampling and Magnetic Targets
During the quarter, FMR executed a conditional binding term sheet to acquire 100% of the La Lorena Project, a largely unexplored copper-gold district in central Chile. Reconnaissance rock chip sampling at key prospects La Martuca and Esperanza confirmed the presence of high-grade mineralisation, with copper assays reaching up to 5.32% Cu and gold values up to 1.91 g/t Au.
A drone magnetic survey identified multiple priority targets interpreted as concealed intrusive centres, including a large 1.3 km by 2.8 km magnetic high beneath La Martuca and similarly sized features at Esperanza and the Gatica target area. These magnetic highs are ringed by magnetic lows, consistent with magnetite destruction zones related to hydrothermal alteration typical of porphyry systems.
FMR is advancing systematic exploration at La Lorena, incorporating geological mapping, expanded geochemical sampling, induced polarisation surveys, and helicopter magnetic and radiometric surveys. The company is targeting drill testing of priority targets in late 2026, building on its technical interpretation of a district-scale mineralised hydrothermal system.
Corporate Update and Project Portfolio Streamlining
FMR completed the first tranche of a placement during June 2026, raising $3.9 million, with a second tranche of $5 million pending. These funds are earmarked to support exploration programs across the La Lorena, Llahuin, and recently announced Los Warbos projects. The company reported a cash balance of approximately $4.66 million at quarter-end, excluding the pending tranche two proceeds.
Meanwhile, the Fairfield Project in Canada was reviewed and deemed a lower priority given FMR’s strategic focus on Chilean copper-gold assets. The company intends to divest this asset to concentrate resources on its core projects.
What Lies Ahead for FMR Resources
With Phase I drilling at Llahuin confirming a broad mineralised system and La Lorena acquisition gaining momentum through high-grade sampling and geophysical targeting, FMR is positioning itself for a pivotal exploration phase. The planned Phase II drilling at Llahuin and initial drill programs at La Lorena will be critical to testing the extent and grade of these emerging porphyry systems. Investors will be watching closely as integrated datasets refine these targets and the company leverages its recent capital raising to accelerate field activities.
Bottom Line?
FMR’s integrated exploration approach and strategic acquisition set the stage for critical drill programs later this year, with upcoming assay results poised to define the next chapter of its Chilean copper-gold story.
Questions in the middle?
- Will Phase II drilling at Llahuin confirm the presence of a higher-grade porphyry core?
- How will FMR prioritise drill targets across the expansive and largely untested La Lorena Project?
- What impact will the pending $5 million placement tranche have on accelerating exploration timelines?
