Drilling Breaks New Ground at Tardiff Deposit

Vital Metals Limited (ASX:VML) has pushed the boundaries of its flagship Tardiff rare earth deposit in Canada’s Northwest Territories, with its 2026 diamond drilling program confirming and extending mineralisation beyond the current 192.7 million tonne resource. The campaign unearthed a standout 6.0m interval grading 3.86% total rare earth oxides (TREO) from 100m depth, alongside broad zones such as 47.0m at 1.66% TREO, signalling both high-grade pockets and extensive continuity.

These findings reinforce the deposit’s scale and quality, feeding directly into an updated Mineral Resource Estimate and the ongoing Pre-Feasibility Study (PFS), which previously valued the project at a post-tax net present value of US$445 million. The drilling also confirmed significant niobium mineralisation and revealed anomalous gallium concentrations, an unexpected element that now warrants dedicated metallurgical investigation.

Upgrading Geological Confidence and Resource Potential

The 2026 program focused on improving geological confidence by targeting areas for conversion from Inferred to Indicated Resource categories. Thick, consistent intercepts such as 102m at 1.47% TREO with 26% neodymium-praseodymium (NdPr) from 4m depth support this goal. NdPr, critical to permanent magnet manufacture for electric vehicles and renewable energy technologies, consistently represented 22% to 27% of TREO across the intersections.

Importantly, mineralisation was intersected beyond the current resource boundaries, particularly along the eastern margin, where the high-grade 6m at 3.86% TREO zone was identified. These extensions remain open, suggesting further upside potential. The company’s view of Nechalacho as a district-scale, dynamic rare earth and critical minerals system is bolstered by these results, which also highlight the potential of adjacent targets such as North T, South T, and newly defined regional zones.

Gallium Emerges as a New Element of Interest

Alongside rare earths and niobium, anomalous gallium oxide levels averaging 182 ppm Ga₂O₃ were detected across both eastern and western zones, notably within a 102m intercept in hole L26-692. While gallium’s economic significance at Nechalacho remains to be determined, these results have prompted plans for targeted mineral deportment studies and metallurgical test work to evaluate its potential contribution to the project’s value.

Next Steps Toward Resource Expansion and Project Advancement

Vital Metals plans to integrate the new drilling data into an updated 3D geological model and Mineral Resource Estimate, aiming to quantify resource growth and upgrade confidence levels by converting Inferred Resources to Indicated. This updated resource will underpin the Tardiff PFS, with completion targeted for early 2027.

District-scale exploration will continue, including an airborne geophysical survey and advancing regional targets toward drill readiness for winter 2027. Meanwhile, preparations to process North T stockpiles for near-term cash flow generation remain underway, maintaining momentum across the project.

Despite severe winter conditions limiting drilling to 17 of 46 planned holes, the results delivered on key objectives, confirming resource continuity and revealing new high-grade zones. The findings add fresh impetus to Vital Metals’ strategy to establish Nechalacho as a cornerstone of North America’s rare earth supply chain.
