Tali Resources Targets Large-Scale Khya Copper-Gold Anomaly with August Drilling
Tali Resources plans to start diamond drilling at its Khya prospect in mid-August, aiming to test a significant concealed copper-gold system within Western Australia's Lake Mackay Fault Zone.
- Diamond drilling set for mid-August at Khya prospect
- 3.5km magnetic and 2km gravity anomalies define target
- $270,000 government co-funding secured for drilling
- Aircore drilling completed at multiple West Arunta prospects
- Further aircore drilling to resume in late September
Khya Prospect Emerges as Priority Drill Target
Tali Resources Ltd (ASX:TR2) is advancing its exploration campaign with a diamond drilling program scheduled to commence at the Khya prospect in mid-August. Located within the Lake Mackay Fault Zone of Western Australia's West Arunta Project, Khya presents a compelling concealed target characterised by a 3.5-kilometre-wide circular magnetic anomaly coupled with a coincident 2-kilometre gravity high. This geophysical signature is interpreted as indicative of intrusion-related copper-gold mineralisation, a style often associated with significant deposits.
Geophysical Data Underpins Drill Planning
The Khya target features a complex magnetic ring dyke structure surrounding a less magnetic core, with gravity data suggesting a dense body approximately 275 to 300 metres below surface. Tali's interpretation points to a felsic to intermediate intrusive ring dyke emplaced above a deeper intrusive plug, with the gravity anomaly potentially reflecting alteration or veining typical of mineralising systems. The planned diamond drill hole is designed to intersect both the magnetic and gravity highs, probing the heart of this geophysical anomaly.
The company has secured a $270,000 Exploration Incentive Scheme co-funding grant from the Geological Survey of Western Australia to support the drilling, underscoring the prospect's perceived potential. All heritage and regulatory approvals are in place, clearing the way for the mid-August start.
Broader Drilling Activity in West Arunta
Alongside Khya, Tali has completed aircore drilling at several other prospects within the West Arunta Project, including Lonar East, Chilka, Gibson West, Caspian East, and Hutt. This program targets a mix of gravity-only, magnetic-only, and combined anomalies proximal to the Central Australian Suture, a major crustal structure considered prospective for copper and critical minerals.
Aircore drilling is set to resume in late September, focusing on additional targets such as Caspian North, Caspian North-East, Hutt West, Verde East, and Verde West. These efforts form part of a systematic exploration approach aimed at unlocking multiple mineralisation styles across Tali’s extensive tenure.
Strategic Positioning in Emerging Mineral Province
The West Arunta Project covers a significant and underexplored region at the western edge of the Paleoproterozoic Arunta Orogen, a geological province with potential for iron oxide copper gold (IOCG), magmatic sulphides, and sediment-hosted copper deposits. The Khya prospect's location near major structural intersections enhances its prospectivity for deep-sourced mineralising fluids.
Tali’s Managing Director Rhys Bradley emphasised the significance of the Khya target, noting its favourable structural setting and the integration of magnetic and gravity anomalies as a strong indicator for an intrusion-related copper-gold system. The upcoming drilling will be a critical test of this interpretation.
Bottom Line?
Drilling at Khya will provide the first direct test of a large, geophysically defined copper-gold target in a structurally complex and underexplored region, with results poised to shape the next phase of exploration.
Questions in the middle?
- Will the Khya drill hole intersect economically significant copper-gold mineralisation?
- How will the results from Khya influence prioritisation of other West Arunta prospects?
- What insights will the upcoming aircore drilling provide on the broader mineral system?
