VRX Silica's updated feasibility study for Arrowsmith North confirms robust economics with a $179.2 million post-tax NPV8 and a 25-year mine life. The company completed the Arramall farm purchase to support plant relocation and targets production in late 2027.

  • Arrowsmith North BFS updates show $179.2M ungeared NPV8 over 25 years
  • Arramall farm acquisition enables plant relocation and environmental offsets
  • WA Government backs Muchea land swap increasing high-grade silica sand
  • Approximately $7.5 million equity raised for early works and farm purchase

Arrowsmith North BFS Confirms Strong Project Economics

VRX Silica Limited (ASX:VRX) has unveiled an updated Bankable Feasibility Study (BFS) for its flagship Arrowsmith North silica sand project, delivering a post-tax ungeared NPV8 of $179.2 million over a 25-year mine life. The project, located 270km north of Perth, boasts a JORC-compliant Ore Reserve of 221 million tonnes at 99.5% SiO₂, underpinning long-term supply to foundry, container glass, and flat-glass markets, primarily in Asia.

The updated BFS incorporates a strategic relocation of the processing plant and infrastructure to the adjacent Arramall freehold property, yielding capital cost savings in site clearing and road construction. However, these were partially offset by rising costs for OEM components, copper cabling, concrete, and steel, resulting in an overall capital expenditure increase of approximately $8.3 million to an estimated $74.5 million. Despite this, the project maintains capital efficiency with an estimated payback period of 4.6 years.

Arramall Farm Purchase Supports Environmental Strategy and Plant Relocation

During the quarter, VRX completed the purchase of the 2,091-hectare Arramall farm adjacent to Arrowsmith North. This acquisition forms a key part of the company’s environmental offset strategy and is pivotal for relocating the processing plant to cleared freehold land with direct access to Brand Highway, facilitating logistics to Geraldton Port.

Relocation reduces the environmental footprint by disturbing less native vegetation and allows for the integration of a solar farm to lower power costs and emissions. The move requires amendments to existing regulatory approvals, currently under consideration by State and Federal agencies, with completion expected in the current quarter.

Production Target and Project Timeline

VRX is targeting first production and shipment from Arrowsmith North in the fourth quarter of calendar year 2027. The project development timeline includes final investment decision (FID) preparations, detailed engineering, and early works supported by recent equity raises.

Muchea Land Swap Proposal Gains Government Support

The Western Australian State Government has endorsed VRX’s land swap proposal at the Muchea silica sand project, located 50km north of Perth. This swap increases the accessible high-grade silica sand resource within an area of lower environmental impact, reinforcing Muchea’s status as a world-class deposit with a JORC-compliant resource of 208 million tonnes at 99.6% SiO₂.

The proposal facilitates mining lease adjustments to protect Black-Cockatoo habitats and aligns with the State’s Made in WA plan by supporting ultra-clear glass production for solar panels and downstream manufacturing. VRX plans to update the 2019 BFS for Muchea and submit regulatory referrals in early 2027.

Capital Raising and Strategic Placement Bolster Development Funding

VRX raised approximately $7.5 million in equity during the quarter through a partially underwritten renounceable rights issue, with proceeds allocated to the Arramall farm purchase, early works at Arrowsmith North, and ongoing studies at Muchea. Subsequent to quarter-end, strategic placements secured an additional $4.5 million from US-based Nebari Natural Resources Credit Fund II LP and the Delphi group, strengthening institutional support ahead of project financing discussions.

Immediately post-placement, Nebari and Delphi hold 10.46% and 13.66% stakes respectively, on an undiluted basis. The company anticipates funding Arrowsmith North’s capital expenditure through a combination of equity, debt (up to $60 million), and prepaid offtake arrangements, with ongoing engagement from potential financiers.

Management Changes Signal Leadership Transition

Effective 1 July 2026, Tony Swiericzuk assumed the CEO role full time, following a transition period starting February. Swiericzuk brings over 30 years of mining leadership experience, including operational and project development expertise. Meanwhile, former managing director Bruce Maluish transitioned to a non-executive director role, providing continuity and sector knowledge. The company also appointed Peter Pawlowitsch as interim chairman following Paul Boyatzis’s retirement at quarter-end.

Bottom Line?

VRX’s updated BFS and strategic land acquisition set a solid foundation for Arrowsmith North’s development, but final regulatory approvals and project financing remain critical milestones ahead of targeted production in late 2027.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will VRX secure final regulatory approvals for the Arramall plant relocation within the expected timeframe?
  • How will ongoing geopolitical factors, such as the Middle East conflict, affect operating costs and financing terms?
  • What are the prospects for downstream processing developments leveraging Muchea’s ultra-clear silica sand resource?
