Record Intercept at Springfield Signals Project Upside
Xpedra Resources (ASX:XPD) has delivered a standout result from its maiden reverse circulation (RC) drilling program at the Springfield Gold Deposit in central New South Wales. The company reported its best intercept to date: a thick 94-metre zone grading 2.00 grams per tonne gold (g/t Au), including a high-grade 13-metre section at 10.21g/t Au from 81 metres depth (hole SFRC025). This combination of thickness and grade is potentially transformative, confirming substantial high-grade zones within the broader mineralised system and underscoring Springfield's scale potential.
The maiden program comprised 27 holes totalling 2,579 metres, delineating broad, shallow gold mineralisation with multiple high-grade zones continuous over approximately 400 metres of strike. Importantly, all four deeper step-out holes designed to test down-dip extensions intersected significant mineralisation, confirming that the system remains completely open at depth. The mineralised corridor also remains open to the north beyond the northernmost drill hole (SFRC022), where historical arsenic anomalies indicate further exploration opportunities over an additional 1.1 kilometres of untested strike. This presents a compelling target for expanding the deposit’s footprint.
Follow-Up Drilling and Expansion Plans Underway
Building on these promising results, Xpedra completed a second-phase RC program of four holes for 867 metres in late July, targeting depth extensions below visible alteration zones identified during the maiden drilling. Assay results from this follow-up drilling are pending and expected in the coming weeks. The company is also advancing planning for a larger third-phase drilling campaign aimed at systematically expanding Springfield both at depth and along strike, with a focus on the high-grade zones identified in the deepest holes (SFRC023 to SFRC026).
Neeld Acquisition Adds High-Grade Historical Goldfield
In a strategic move to bolster its NSW portfolio, Xpedra secured shareholder approval for acquiring a 100% interest in the Neeld Gold Project, located in the Lachlan Fold Belt. Neeld encompasses the West Wyalong Goldfield, historically one of Australia’s highest-grade goldfields, with recorded production of approximately 439,000 ounces at an exceptional average grade of 41g/t Au. Peak production occurred in 1899, yielding 44,675 ounces at a bonanza grade of 101g/t Au.
Modern exploration at Neeld has been limited, with only four drill holes ever extending below 200 metres. Notably, historical mining focused on shallow lodes, leaving significant unmined high-grade resources at depth, especially beneath the Mallee Bull Reef, where stoping reached just 274 metres despite development to 411 metres. Xpedra plans to rapidly delineate these unexploited zones, potentially accelerating resource growth.
Capital Raising Supports Aggressive Exploration
To fund its expanding exploration agenda, Xpedra raised approximately $3.2 million through a placement to institutional and sophisticated investors, including participation from directors. At quarter-end, the company held around $3.1 million in cash, with exploration expenditure of $659,000 focused on Springfield during the period. No mining production activities were reported.
Meanwhile, Xpedra’s sale of the Hidden Bay Uranium Project in Canada to Powerhaus Uranium Limited remains pending ASX approval for Powerhaus's listing. The transaction, once completed, will relieve Xpedra of ongoing expenditure commitments while retaining exposure through a production royalty and shareholding.
Bottom Line?
Xpedra’s maiden drilling at Springfield has set a new benchmark with thick, high-grade gold intercepts, while the Neeld acquisition adds a historically rich, underexplored asset, both underpinning an active exploration pipeline funded by a recent $3.2 million raise.
Questions in the middle?
- Will assays from the second-phase drilling confirm deeper high-grade extensions at Springfield?
- How quickly can Xpedra delineate unmined resources beneath historical stopes at Neeld?
- What impact will the pending completion of the Hidden Bay sale have on Xpedra’s financial flexibility?
