Moonlight Resources Extends Leo Grande Gold Mineralisation with Expanded Drilling
Moonlight Resources has significantly extended the Leo Grande gold system at its Clermont Project, with Phase 2 drilling pushing mineralisation 200 metres southeast and 250 metres northwest. The company holds a solid A$6.1 million cash balance as it advances towards a maiden resource estimate.
- Phase 2 drilling expands gold mineralisation footprint at Leo Grande
- Notable broad near-surface gold intersections and deeper mineralised holes
- Approximately 15,000 metres drilled with assays pending
- Cash balance of A$6.135 million at quarter end
- Focus on maiden Mineral Resource Estimate in upcoming quarter
Leo Grande Gold System Grows with Broad Intersections
Moonlight Resources Ltd (ASX:ML8) has reported a strong quarter of exploration at its flagship Clermont Gold Project in Queensland, with Phase 2 reverse circulation (RC) drilling extending the Leo Grande gold system by approximately 200 metres to the south-east and 250 metres to the north-west. The latest drilling results confirm broad, near-surface gold mineralisation and continuity along the Leo Grande Shear Zone, underpinning the project's growing potential.
Notable intersections from the initial batch of assays include 42 metres at 1.01 g/t Au from surface (LGRC102) and 40 metres at 1.31 g/t Au from 76 metres (LGRC105), which featured a higher-grade 5-metre interval at 3.40 g/t Au. Deeper drilling also revealed promising mineralisation, with 18 metres at 1.55 g/t Au from 60 metres (LGRC091), including 3 metres at 7.80 g/t Au, indicating potential extensions below the current footprint.
Drilling Program Expanded Amid Positive Results
Encouraged by these results, Moonlight expanded its Phase 2 drilling to further test the mineralised trend between Leo Grande Central and Leo Grande South, drilling approximately 15,000 metres by quarter-end. The second batch of assay results continued to deliver broad step-out and infill intersections, such as 20 metres at 1.00 g/t Au (LGRC101) and 22 metres at 0.95 g/t Au (LGRC125), helping to close the gap between the two prospects.
Infill drilling increased the density of data within the central shear zone, enhancing confidence in the continuity and geometry of the mineralised system. Several holes ended in mineralisation at depth, providing clear targets for further drilling to grow the deposit.
Financial Position Supports Ongoing Exploration
Moonlight ended the quarter with a healthy cash balance of A$6.135 million, having spent approximately A$1.55 million on exploration activities. The company maintains no drawn debt facilities and a shareholder base anchored by Diatreme Resources (16.76%) and Lithium Plus Minerals (10.61%).
Managing Director Greg Starr highlighted the progress, stating that the company’s priority is to complete interpretation of outstanding assay results and continue building the dataset needed for a maiden Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE) at Leo Grande.
Looking Ahead: Resource Estimate and New Targets
Moonlight plans to complete assay interpretations and geological modelling in the coming quarter, alongside further testing of strike and depth extensions along the Leo Grande Shear Zone. The company will also commence drilling at the Goldfinger and Petersen’s Prospects within Clermont and initiate maiden drilling at the Peak Downs Copper Prospect.
This sustained exploration momentum follows the company’s recent Maiden 2,500m RC drilling at Goldfinger commenced, signalling a broadening of focus beyond Leo Grande as Moonlight advances its portfolio.
Bottom Line?
Moonlight’s expanding Leo Grande system and solid cash position set the stage for a maiden resource estimate, but pending assays will be critical to validate the deposit’s scale and grade.
Questions in the middle?
- How will the outstanding assay results influence the upcoming maiden Mineral Resource Estimate?
- What is the potential for deeper mineralisation beyond the current drilling footprint?
- How might drilling progress at Goldfinger and Peak Downs impact the company’s exploration pipeline?
