Riedel Resources Completes Major Gold Project Acquisition in Laverton District

Mining By Maxwell Dee 4 min read

Riedel Resources has transformed into a multi-project gold explorer with the acquisition of controlling interests in the Cosmo and Mt Venn projects in Western Australia, complementing its Kingman asset in Arizona. The company is gearing up for maiden drilling and expanded exploration across its portfolio.

  • Acquisition of Cosmo and Mt Venn gold projects expands Riedel's portfolio to ~1,000km² in Western Australia
  • Aboriginal heritage clearance secured at Cosmo, preparing for first drilling since 1990s
  • Planning underway for soil geochemistry surveys at Kingman Project in Arizona
  • A$2.5 million equity placement completed post-quarter to fund exploration
  • Board refreshed with new CEO, Non-Executive Director, and Special Advisor appointments

Strategic Acquisition Positions Riedel as Multi-Jurisdictional Gold Explorer

Riedel Resources Limited (ASX:RIE) has completed a transformational acquisition that significantly broadens its gold exploration footprint. The company secured a majority and controlling interest in the Cosmo and Mt Venn gold projects, two belt-scale assets spanning approximately 1,000 square kilometres in the prolific Laverton Gold District of Western Australia. This deal, finalised on 21 July 2026, complements Riedel’s existing Kingman Gold Project in Arizona, USA, establishing it as a multi-project explorer with drill-ready targets across two Tier 1 jurisdictions.

The Cosmo and Mt Venn projects are strategically located near major gold mines such as Gruyere, Duketon, and the Golden Highway Trend, which collectively boast multi-million ounce gold endowments. Riedel’s acquisition from Sarama Resources Ltd (ASX:SRR) not only secures large-scale exploration ground but also brings Sarama on as a cornerstone shareholder with an initial ~32% stake in Riedel, reinforcing a supportive capital structure.

Exploration Advancements at Cosmo and Mt Venn

At the 580 km² Cosmo Project, Riedel has received aboriginal cultural heritage clearance, paving the way for a maiden reconnaissance drilling program; the first since the 1990s. Previous broad-scale soil geochemistry surveys delineated extensive gold-in-soil anomalies stretching 45 kilometres along strike with footprints up to 1.8 kilometres wide. These anomalies, including high-grade grab samples up to 52 g/t gold, underpin the planned drilling campaign anticipated to commence in the second half of 2026.

Meanwhile, at the 420 km² Mt Venn Project, the company is undertaking a comprehensive reinterpretation of the geological model using geophysical data to target internal intrusive units and a regionally extensive shear zone. This work runs alongside soil geochemistry surveys designed to cover gaps and address areas where historical data may have been masked by sand cover. The project holds potential not only for gold but also copper and platinum-group elements, with several kilometre-scale gold-in-soil anomalies still untested.

Kingman Project Exploration Expands in Arizona

Riedel is also advancing exploration at its Kingman Gold Project in north-west Arizona, situated at the intersection of major copper and gold belts. Planning is underway for regional soil geochemistry surveys aimed at generating new targets across a largely underexplored project area. This builds on the company’s existing high-grade inferred mineral resource of 64,000 ounces of gold centred on the Tintic Prospect, which has seen historic mining and recent drilling success.

Corporate Moves and Capital Position

The acquisition was funded by a two-tranche equity placement raising A$2.5 million at A$0.025 per share, completed post-quarter, boosting Riedel’s cash balance to approximately A$3.6 million. The consideration for the acquisition included 150 million shares and 100 million performance rights convertible into shares upon achievement of specific drilling and resource milestones, alongside payment of up to A$300,000 in project-related costs.

Riedel also refreshed its leadership team with the appointment of Paul Schmiede as Chief Executive Officer and Jack Hamilton as Special Advisor – Exploration, both bringing extensive experience and familiarity with the newly acquired projects. Andrew Dinning joined as a Non-Executive Director, replacing Scott Patrizi, while existing directors Scott Cuomo and Adrien Wing remain on the board.

The performance rights vesting conditions include achieving significant gold intersections in drilling and resource milestones, as well as a share price hurdle, aligning management incentives with exploration success and shareholder value creation.

Bottom Line?

Riedel’s expanded portfolio and fresh leadership set the stage for a pivotal exploration phase, with maiden drilling at Cosmo and renewed surveys at Mt Venn and Kingman likely to define the company’s near-term trajectory.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will the maiden drilling at Cosmo deliver the high-grade intersections needed to trigger performance rights milestones?
  • How will Riedel prioritise exploration spend across its three projects given its current cash position?
  • What impact will Sarama’s 32% stake and board representation have on Riedel’s strategic decisions going forward?
