Rokeby Resources Completes Omeo Acquisition and Starts High-Grade Drilling
Rokeby Resources (ASX:RKB) has secured the high-grade Omeo Gold Project, renewed a key mining licence, and launched a drilling campaign at Sunnyside to upgrade historical gold resources while raising $4.34 million.
- Omeo Gold Project acquisition completed post-quarter
- Mining licence MIN 4921 renewed for 20 years
- Nine-hole diamond drilling underway at Sunnyside deposit
- Leadership reshuffle with new MD and Chairman appointed
- Capital raising of $4.34 million completed
Omeo Gold Project Acquisition Finalised
Rokeby Resources (ASX:RKB) has crossed a major milestone with the completion of its acquisition of the Omeo Gold Project, an advanced, high-grade gold asset located near Omeo township in Victoria’s Mt Wills goldfield. The acquisition, finalised after the June quarter, adds a historically significant gold footprint with a non-JORC historical estimate of approximately 320,000 ounces at 4.0 g/t Au across the Maude and Sunnyside deposits.
The project covers a 5.8-kilometre mineralised corridor, with historical resource estimates only covering a fraction of this strike length. This leaves substantial near-term exploration upside as mineralisation remains open along strike and at depth.
Mining Licence Secured for Two Decades
Securing long-term tenure was a critical step, with the renewal of mining licence MIN 4921 for 20 years to 2044. This licence covers the Mt Wills goldfield, including the key Maude and Sunnyside deposits, ensuring Rokeby’s control over a historically productive area known for grades exceeding 18 g/t Au in past mining operations.
Drilling Program Targets Resource Upgrade at Sunnyside
Rokeby has initiated a nine-hole, 2,180-metre diamond drilling program at the fully permitted Sunnyside deposit, aiming to upgrade the historical resource and support a future JORC-compliant estimate. Four holes totalling 916.45 metres have been completed, with assays pending. The program is focused on down-plunge extensions of known high-grade shoots, improved resource definition, and testing beneath and along strike from previous intersections.
The drilling includes twin holes to confirm historical high-grade intersections such as 15.9 metres at 52.3 g/t Au and other significant intercepts above 10 g/t Au. The program is designed to unlock the full potential of this advanced deposit and is a key part of Rokeby’s growth strategy at Omeo.
Leadership Changes Signal Strategic Intent
Reflecting the company’s growth ambitions, Rokeby appointed Richard Beazley as Managing Director and Tim Pallas as Independent Non-Executive Chairman during the quarter. Beazley brings over 35 years of mining and corporate experience, while Pallas offers extensive public leadership credentials, including a decade as Victoria’s Treasurer and roles as Minister for Resources and Economic Growth.
Trevor Benson transitioned from CEO to Non-Executive Director, ensuring continuity in leadership through this pivotal phase. Meanwhile, former Chairman Adam Taylor retired after four years at the helm.
Capital Raising Strengthens Financial Position
To support exploration and project development, Rokeby raised $4.34 million through a two-tranche placement, bolstering its cash position to $3.4 million at quarter end. Exploration expenditure for the period was $369,000, with corporate and administrative costs managed prudently.
No exploration activity was reported at Rokeby’s other assets, the McCauley Creek Copper-Silver Project and the Hurricane Project, during the quarter, as focus remains squarely on advancing Omeo.
Bottom Line?
Rokeby’s acquisition and drilling campaign at Omeo mark a decisive pivot towards resource growth, but assay results will be critical to validating the historical estimates and defining the project’s future trajectory.
Questions in the middle?
- Will the Sunnyside drilling confirm and expand the historical high-grade resource to support a JORC-compliant upgrade?
- How will the new leadership team shape capital deployment and exploration priorities at Omeo?
- What timeline and budget will Rokeby allocate to fully delineate the 5.8 km mineralised corridor?
