Waratah Minerals expanded its Spur Gold Project drilling with 12 rigs, confirming extensive high-grade gold zones and consolidating the district through strategic acquisitions. A $48 million capital raise underpins ongoing exploration.

  • 12-rig, 80,000m drilling campaign advances Spur and Consols zones
  • Spur Zone mineralised footprint extends to 550m x 800m, shallow high-grade intercepts confirmed
  • Consols Zone shows multiple >200 gram-metre intercepts, mineralisation open in several directions
  • Acquisition of Ironclad Mining Lease completed; option secured for Goldenclad Mining Leases
  • $48 million placement completed; $57.7 million cash on hand at quarter-end

Spur Gold Project Drilling Intensifies with 12 Rigs

Waratah Minerals (ASX:WTM) has significantly ramped up exploration at its 100% owned Spur Gold Project near Cargo, NSW, pushing an 80,000-metre drilling program with a fleet expanded to 12 rigs by quarter-end. The company’s aggressive multi-rig strategy targets both resource definition and growth, focusing on shallow mineralisation at the Spur Zone and high-grade extensions at the Consols Zone.

Drilling results from the Spur Zone confirm a continuous mineralised system extending over a footprint of 550 metres by 800 metres, with all significant intersections starting within 60 metres of surface. Step-out and infill holes have demonstrated predictable high-grade shoots over 300 metres strike and 350 metres down-dip, reinforcing the potential for a shallow mineral resource that could underpin future development plans. The shallow intercepts include standout results such as 55.9 metres at 2.63 g/t Au from just 3.1 metres depth, including a spectacular 1 metre at 108 g/t Au.

Meanwhile, the Consols Zone continues to reveal the scale of the gold system with multiple >200 gram-metre intercepts, expanding the mineralised envelope to over 400 metres east-west, 500 metres north-south, and 600 metres vertically. Recent step-out drilling has delivered a third such intercept, including 144 metres at 1.49 g/t Au from 482 metres, confirming robust growth potential in this area.

Strategic District Consolidation Through Key Acquisitions

Waratah has completed the acquisition of the Ironclad Mining Lease (GL5828), the largest historic mine in the Spur district located just 1.4 kilometres along strike from the Spur and Consols discoveries. Ironclad produced high-grade gold historically, with grades between 30 g/t and 61 g/t Au, and remains under-explored since the mid-1990s. Diamond drilling is planned to test high-priority targets within this tenure.

Additionally, the company secured a binding option to acquire 100% of the shares in the holder of the Goldenclad Mining Leases (ML960, ML1092, GL3694), which cover several historic small-scale gold mines and multiple untested mineralised structures. This acquisition completes the consolidation of the Spur Gold District, bringing all historic gold mines under Waratah’s control. The unified landholding streamlines exploration and reduces ownership fragmentation, derisking the project’s future drilling decisions.

Capital Raise and Board Appointment Support Growth

To fund its ambitious exploration and drilling agenda, Waratah completed a $48 million placement during the quarter at $0.62 per share, raising capital from institutional and sophisticated investors. The proceeds will support extensional drilling at Spur and Consols, exploration at emerging targets like Gazzards, Alpine, and Ironclad, as well as metallurgical test work and ongoing geochemical and geophysical programs.

The company ended the quarter with a strong cash position of $57.7 million, providing a runway for at least 5.8 quarters at current expenditure levels. Exploration spend for the quarter was $9.7 million, reflecting the scale of the drilling campaign.

In corporate developments, Waratah appointed Johan Van Vuuren as an independent Non-Executive Director. Van Vuuren brings extensive executive experience from sectors including mining and energy, having held senior roles in major organisations such as Maaden and the Saudi sovereign wealth fund.

Sustainability and Community Engagement Efforts

Waratah continues to prioritise safety, operational excellence, and community relationships. The company maintains a zero-harm workplace culture supported by comprehensive training and certifications. Locally sourced labour and vendors are engaged to bolster regional economic benefits. Community initiatives include sponsorships, installation of emergency medical equipment, and environmental rehabilitation of exploration sites to restore land to pre-drilling conditions.

With the Spur Gold Project positioned in a highly prospective part of the Lachlan Fold Belt, adjacent to Newmont’s Cadia Valley, Waratah’s consolidation and drilling acceleration mark a pivotal stage in advancing a district-scale gold system with substantial growth potential.

Bottom Line?

Waratah’s expanded drilling and district consolidation set the stage for a potential resource upgrade, but investors will be watching for how these early-stage intercepts translate into defined mineral resources.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will ongoing drilling at Spur and Consols zones confirm a maiden mineral resource estimate soon?
  • How will the integration of Ironclad and Goldenclad leases impact exploration prioritisation and capital allocation?
  • What metallurgical characteristics will emerge from test work, and how might they influence project economics?
