1414 Degrees (ASX:14D) has struck a pivotal Heads of Agreement with an Australian data centre operator to develop up to 1 gigawatt of AI data centre infrastructure at its Aurora Energy Precinct in South Australia. The deal grants exclusivity over a 40-hectare parcel within the 1,580-hectare precinct, with a staged build starting from a 17 MW campus expanding to a 200 MW anchor site and potentially scaling to gigawatt levels. This arrangement not only anchors Aurora’s long-term commercial prospects but also leverages existing and planned renewable energy assets, including battery storage and solar generation.

Alongside this, 1414 Degrees identified a faster, lower-cost 33kV grid connection pathway to accelerate early commercial activity at Aurora ahead of the larger 275kV transmission build. This staged approach aims to bring forward revenue opportunities from modular data centres and other energy-intensive tenants, enhancing the precinct’s flexibility and reducing development risk.

SiNTL Battery Technology Advances into Aerospace, Defence, and Drone Markets

The company has established a dedicated Aerospace and Defence Division, guided by an expert advisory board, to commercialise its SiNTL aluminium-coated silicon nanoparticle battery technology across drone, UAV, satellite, and defence applications. This move marks a strategic pivot from laboratory development to real-world testing and commercial partnerships.

Notably, 1414 Degrees signed evaluation agreements with Ukrainian defence manufacturer Energia 2000; an entity producing approximately 72,000 military drones annually; and European space technology firm Orbit Boy. Both partners will independently test SiNTL batteries across multiple platforms, with Orbit Boy selecting SiNTL as the primary energy storage candidate for its planned defence space launch vehicles and satellite servicing modules, pending successful test outcomes.

Technical progress is tangible: SiNTL cells have surpassed 550 mAh/g in power capacity across all tested configurations, with optimised formulations exceeding 600 mAh/g on initial cycles. This represents roughly 60% higher capacity than conventional graphite anodes, underscoring the technology's potential to enhance flight times and payloads in battery-sensitive applications.

Funding Boost Supports Simultaneous Scale-Up and Market Entry

1414 Degrees secured $8.45 million in a placement priced at $0.10 per share, led by cornerstone investor Tribeca Investment Partners. This capital injection is earmarked to fund SiNTL scale-up efforts, including material production at George Washington University, and to support the Energia 2000 and Orbit Boy testing programs concurrently. Subsequent to quarter end, $2 million was raised through option exercises, with a further $13.8 million potentially available if remaining in-the-money options are exercised.

The improved balance sheet enables the company to accelerate commercialisation without having to prioritise one initiative over another, a point emphasised by Executive Chairman Dr Kevin Moriarty, who highlighted the transition of SiNTL from promising lab data to independent third-party validation.

Aurora’s Stage 1 Battery Energy Storage System Nears Transmission Access

The precinct’s 140 MW / 280 MWh Stage 1 Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) has cleared key technical milestones, including acceptance of Generator Performance Standards by AEMO and ElectraNet. This progress has opened the door to commercial transmission access negotiations, a critical step towards connecting Aurora to the National Electricity Market via Port Augusta.

The Stage 1 BESS is intended to underpin the broader precinct’s renewable generation, storage, and industrial development ambitions, reinforcing Aurora’s role as a strategic energy hub.

Industrial Decarbonisation Technologies Advance with Commercial and Development Milestones

Beyond batteries and data centres, 1414 Degrees continues to develop its industrial decarbonisation platforms. The SiBox thermal energy storage system is engaged in multiple confidential tenders and customer enquiries targeting high-temperature industrial heat applications, with potential Heat-as-a-Service business models under consideration.

The SiPHyR silicon-based methane pyrolysis reactor, designed to produce low-emissions hydrogen and solid carbon, has reached the fabrication stage of its first prototype reactor, on track for commissioning by year-end. A dedicated commercial team has been formed to identify optimal market entry strategies for SiPHyR’s outputs, while research collaborations with the Australian National University aim to improve hydrogen storage efficiency.
