  • Secured 3.4-hectare coastal site lease in South Sulawesi
  • New research partnerships with Indonesian and Singaporean institutes
  • Testing underway for seaweed-derived men's vitality nutraceutical
  • Commenced direct seaweed exports to China post-quarter

Strong Indonesian Seaweed Sales Mark First Year

BPH Global Limited (ASX:BP8) has reported approximately A$3.33 million in gross sales from its Indonesian seaweed trading platform since launching in May 2025. The company’s twelfth trading period saw gross sales reach around A$391,000, its second-best monthly result, reflecting a steady build in operational momentum as the Makassar region transitioned from wet to dry season, improving harvesting conditions and product quality.

Trading conditions benefited from seasonal cycles, with stable demand maintained across domestic and export markets. The company has committed to reporting its seaweed trading results quarterly, marking a shift to greater transparency on its core revenue stream.

Coastal Site Lease and Strategic Research Alliances

In a significant expansion of its cultivation footprint, BPH secured a binding two-year lease over a 3.4-hectare coastal site in Takalar Regency, South Sulawesi. This site, featuring existing aquaculture pools and space for new infrastructure, positions the company to scale controlled seaweed cultivation materially.

Supporting this expansion, BPH entered a four-year cooperation agreement with the Maritime Institute of Technology and Business (ITBM) Balik Diwa Makassar. This partnership integrates education, research, and workforce development, with ITBM students providing operational support under the guidance of BPH’s newly appointed Chief Scientific Officer, Ifat Mazouz, who brings two decades of marine biotechnology experience.

Advancing Nutraceutical and Functional Ingredient Development

BPH is progressing multiple R&D projects aimed at higher-value applications of seaweed biomass. A binding testing agreement with Temasek Innovation Holdings in Singapore has launched a two-stage cell-based efficacy program for Project Giddy-Up, a seaweed-derived men’s vitality supplement targeting anti-fatigue and sleep wellness benefits. This program includes assays on erectile function pathways and safety screening, aligning with BPH’s regulatory goal of listing the product on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG) as a complementary medicine.

The company’s collaboration with Indonesia's National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) advanced to Stage 2, focusing on fucoidan extraction technology and developing a powdered anti-ageing supplement prototype expected within three months. Additionally, BPH is pivoting its green seaweed kefir product to a freeze-dried powdered additive through a new agreement with Singapore Polytechnic’s Food Innovation & Resource Centre, broadening its functional ingredient strategy and market applications.

Corporate Streamlining and Market Expansion

BPH divested its non-core China bird’s nest business, simplifying its corporate structure and sharpening focus on its seaweed strategy. Leadership changes saw Francesco Cannavo appointed as Interim Executive Chairman, while Paul Stephenson resigned as Chairman but remains a consultant.

Post-quarter, BPH’s Indonesian subsidiary received approval from China’s General Administration of Customs to export raw seaweed directly to China. The first shipment was dispatched in late June, opening a significant new market channel expected to enhance selling prices and margins. This development aligns with the company’s growth trajectory and diversification of export markets.

Financial Position and Outlook

Despite operational momentum, BPH reported a net operating cash outflow of A$468,000 for the quarter, with cash reserves standing at A$253,000 at quarter-end. The company maintains a US$375,000 trade finance facility secured by seaweed stock, and management affirms ongoing efforts to manage costs and engage investors for future funding needs.

Looking ahead, BPH aims to capitalise on its expanded cultivation capacity and R&D pipeline milestones, including Project Giddy-Up’s efficacy testing and the fucoidan supplement prototype. The company’s streamlined focus, strengthened leadership, and new export capabilities position it to deepen its footprint in the global Blue Economy, though seasonal and regulatory risks remain.

Bottom Line?

BPH Global’s expanding seaweed operations and R&D pipeline, coupled with new access to the Chinese market, set a foundation for growth, but limited cash reserves underscore the need for continued funding and operational discipline.

Questions in the middle?

  • How will BPH manage its cash runway given current operating outflows and limited reserves?
  • What impact will direct exports to China have on pricing and margins in the coming quarters?
  • Can Project Giddy-Up’s efficacy testing and regulatory approval progress on schedule to unlock commercial potential?
