Flagship Minerals Doubles Isidora Gold Resource to 2.1Moz and Acquires Large Whipsaw Copper Project
Flagship Minerals has doubled its Isidora gold resource to 2.1 million ounces, with over 90% in measured and indicated categories, while acquiring a large-scale copper project in Canada’s mining heartland, boosting its portfolio and cash position.
- 2.1Moz JORC gold resource at Isidora, >90% Measured and Indicated
- Whipsaw Copper Project acquired with 0.51-1.02Bt Exploration Target
- RK Lithium Project sold for US$4 million, strengthening cash reserves
- Metallurgical drilling and environmental studies advancing at Isidora
- Potential spin-out of Whipsaw Copper Project under consideration
Isidora Gold Resource Doubles with High Confidence Classification
Flagship Minerals (ASX:FLG) has delivered a significant milestone at its Isidora Gold Project in Chile, defining a 2.1 million ounce JORC-compliant Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE) that is predominantly measured and indicated. Over 90% of the resource falls into these higher confidence categories, a notable achievement given the estimate was compiled without new drilling. The resource is open in multiple directions and extends from surface, underpinning the potential for an open-pit, heap leach operation.
The MRE is based on historical drilling spanning 1988 to 2011, integrating 90 holes and over 22,700 metres of drilling. It was constrained within an optimised pit shell assuming a conservative gold price of US$1,170 per ounce, roughly 25% below spot, and varying recoveries depending on oxide, mixed, and sulphide zones. Approximately 73% of the resource is measured, 18% indicated, and 9% inferred, providing a solid foundation for advancing towards feasibility.
Metallurgical and Environmental Progress Supports Development Pathway
Parallel to metallurgical work, baseline environmental studies are progressing positively. The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is on track for submission in early 2027, aligning with the company’s development timeline and benefiting from Chile’s streamlined permitting regime. Community engagement is also advancing, with Flagship securing local services and fostering reciprocal relationships, a key factor in sustainable project development.
Whipsaw Copper Project Acquisition Adds Strategic Copper Exposure
Flagship broadened its portfolio with the acquisition of the Whipsaw Copper Project in British Columbia, Canada, a Tier 1 mining jurisdiction. The project hosts a large-scale porphyry copper system approximately 3.7km long and 1.2km wide, with a JORC Exploration Target ranging from 0.51 to 1.02 billion tonnes at 0.2% to 0.4% copper equivalent. Historical drilling includes significant intercepts such as 283 metres at 0.28% CuEq, confirming the system’s scale and grade potential.
Located just 17km from Hudbay Minerals’ Copper Mountain Mine and 160km from Vancouver, Whipsaw benefits from excellent infrastructure and a pro-mining local community. Flagship is evaluating a potential spin-out of Whipsaw into a standalone ASX-listed company, which would offer shareholders direct exposure to a dedicated copper growth story, subject to regulatory and shareholder approvals.
Financial Position Strengthened by Asset Sales and Capital Raising
Flagship’s financial position received a boost from the sale of its RK Lithium Project for US$4 million (approximately A$5.8 million), with full proceeds now received. This transaction complements a strategic placement completed earlier in the quarter, raising A$2.75 million at a slight discount, supported by existing and new strategic investors including Shandong Xinhai Mining Technology & Equipment Inc.
All outstanding convertible notes were fully converted during the quarter, simplifying the capital structure. As of 30 June, Flagship held A$4.1 million in cash, with an additional A$2.9 million received in July, bringing the total cash balance to around A$7 million. The company also reported ongoing strong interest in its Khao Soon Tungsten Project in Thailand, which may provide further cash inflows pending a potential sale.
Corporate Developments and Next Steps
Flagship strengthened its leadership team with the appointment of John Zhang as a Non-Executive Director, bringing expertise from a major mining EPC firm and strategic shareholder Xinhai. Eduardo Cisternas Melendez joined as Principal Geologist in Chile, adding deep local and operational experience. These appointments support Flagship’s transition from explorer to developer.
Looking ahead, Flagship plans a second MRE update for Isidora in late 2026, following a modest drilling program targeting oxide and transitional zones within and adjacent to the current pit shell. Technical studies including metallurgical test work and infrastructure assessments are ongoing, with further updates expected in the September quarter.
For Whipsaw, a focused diamond drilling program of approximately 4,500 metres over 15 holes is planned to test geological assumptions underpinning the Exploration Target, including depth extensions that could reveal deeper mineralisation akin to nearby Copper Mountain.
Bottom Line?
Flagship Minerals is positioning itself for a pivotal growth phase, with a robust 2.1Moz gold resource, a major copper project in a top jurisdiction, and a strengthened balance sheet; the market will be watching closely how drilling results and permitting milestones unfold through 2026.
Questions in the middle?
- Will the upcoming drilling at Isidora expand the resource beyond the current 2.1Moz estimate?
- How will Flagship navigate regulatory and shareholder approvals for the proposed Whipsaw spin-out?
- What impact will metallurgical test outcomes have on the economic viability and processing strategy at Isidora?
