NewPeak Metals Unveils Large-Scale Gold-Zinc-Silver System at Las Opeñas

NewPeak Metals has confirmed a major polymetallic discovery at its Las Opeñas project in Argentina, with a first drill hole returning 663 metres at 0.41g/t gold equivalent. Concurrently, drilling at Tansey in Queensland reveals extensions to historic gold mineralisation. The company also secured $3.5 million in a two-tranche placement to fund ongoing exploration.

  • Las Opeñas drill hole hits 663m @ 0.41g/t AuEq
  • Tansey drilling confirms gold system extensions
  • $3.5 million placement underway, tranche 2 pending
  • Cash at quarter end $127k after $1.25m exploration spend
  • Strategic options being evaluated for Tansey, Treuer Range, George River

Las Opeñas Delivers Breakthrough Polymetallic Discovery

NewPeak Metals Limited (ASX:NPM) has announced a significant milestone at its 100%-owned Las Opeñas Gold Project in San Juan Province, Argentina, with the first drill hole intersecting a large-scale gold-zinc-silver system. Drill hole 26-LODH-023 returned an impressive 663 metres grading 0.41 grams per tonne gold equivalent (AuEq) from surface, including notable intervals such as 84m at 0.72g/t AuEq from 20m and 282m at 0.65g/t AuEq from 7m. This discovery sits adjacent to historic drilling by Genesis Minerals in 2012, which intercepted 115m at 0.58g/t gold and significant zinc and silver credits.

The 2,464 metres drilled across six holes between April and June 2026 aimed to test for large-scale polymetallic mineralisation, a goal NewPeak has clearly achieved. Assay results from the remaining five holes, totaling 1,802 metres, are expected within the next two to four weeks, which will provide further clarity on the scale and grade of the system.

Tansey Drilling Extends Historic Gold Mineralisation

Meanwhile, NewPeak’s maiden drill program at the Tansey Gold Project in south-east Queensland confirmed significant extensions of gold mineralisation beyond the historic South Burnett Mine workings. Four diamond drill holes totaling 1,179 metres returned key intercepts such as 43m at 0.75g/t gold from 157m and 41m at 0.68g/t gold from 229m, including higher-grade zones up to 1.41g/t gold.

Importantly, a scissor hole intercepted a previously unidentified parallel structure, indicating a broader mineralised footprint than previously known. This discovery expands exploration potential across the tenement holding and provides new targets for future drilling campaigns. NewPeak is integrating these results with historic data to refine targeting strategies.

Capital Raise Supports Exploration Momentum

To capitalise on these promising results, NewPeak completed a $3.5 million two-tranche share placement. The first tranche raised approximately $640,000, with the second tranche of $2.86 million subject to shareholder approval at an extraordinary general meeting scheduled for 21 August 2026. The funds are earmarked to advance drilling and resource definition at Las Opeñas, positioning the company for the next phase of exploration.

Despite the recent capital injection, NewPeak ended the quarter with a modest cash balance of $127,000 after spending $1.25 million on exploration activities. The company also holds approximately 3.5 million shares in Lakes Blue Energy NL (ASX:LKO), which closed at $0.35 per share on 30 July 2026, representing a potential liquid asset.

Strategic Review of Other Assets Underway

NewPeak is prioritising Las Opeñas for near-term development but is actively considering strategic options for other projects. These include the Tansey Gold Project, where further exploration or farm-in arrangements may be pursued, as well as the Treuer Range uranium project in the Northern Territory and the George River uranium, rare earth elements, and scandium project in Canada. The company is exploring third-party partnerships or divestments to optimise its portfolio and focus resources on its highest-potential assets.

Bottom Line?

NewPeak’s Las Opeñas discovery sets a strong foundation, but upcoming assay results and shareholder approval of funding will be critical to sustaining exploration momentum.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will assay results from the remaining Las Opeñas drill holes confirm and extend the initial large-scale discovery?
  • How will NewPeak’s strategic decisions on Tansey and uranium projects shape its exploration focus and capital allocation?
  • Can the company successfully convert its share placement into sustained funding to support ongoing drilling and development?
