Santa Fe Minerals has wrapped up a 3,700-metre drilling campaign at its Satama gold prospect in Côte d’Ivoire, overcoming equipment failures and wet season delays. Assay results are due in early August as the company plans further drilling and expands exploration across newly acquired regional projects.
- Completed 16 holes totalling 3,705.5 metres at Satama gold prospect
- Drilling hampered by rig failures and wet season onset
- Assay results expected in early August
- Initial fieldwork underway at Mankono project with assays pending
- Expanding exploration portfolio with multiple Côte d’Ivoire projects acquired from WIA Gold
Satama Drilling Program Concludes Amid Operational Challenges
Santa Fe Minerals (ASX:SFM) has completed its latest drilling campaign at the Satama gold prospect within the Eburnea Gold Project in Côte d’Ivoire, delivering 16 holes for a total of 3,705.5 metres. The program, initially planned to include 33 reverse circulation (RC) and 10 diamond drill (DD) holes, was curtailed by mechanical issues and the onset of the local wet season.
The dual-purpose rig experienced early low drilling rates due to breakdowns, followed by an engine failure mid-program that forced a switch to a single-purpose diamond rig. Delays in receiving replacement parts, compounded by heavy rains, suspended drilling activities before the planned holes could be completed. Despite these setbacks, the company managed to ramp up drilling rates after initial logistics issues.
Assay results for all completed holes are anticipated in the first week of August, which will be crucial to assess the continuity and grade of gold mineralisation at Satama. The company is actively reviewing options to complete the remaining RC holes and expand the program to include step-out drilling, aiming to delineate a more comprehensive resource.
Eburnea Project’s Geological Potential and Regional Exploration
The Satama Permit hosts a Birimian orogenic gold system characterised by stacked, moderately to steeply dipping gold lodes extending over a strike length of more than 20 kilometres. The Main Zone, the most advanced target, exhibits continuous gold mineralisation over approximately 2 kilometres and remains open along strike and at depth. Historical drilling has mostly tested shallow oxide zones, but deeper holes have revealed promising mineralisation in fresh rock, suggesting potential for stacked lodes at depth.
Beyond Satama, Santa Fe holds a 65% interest in the Bouake North Application, where auger drilling has identified over 6 kilometres of +100ppb gold anomalies. Early air core and RC drilling have confirmed significant mineralisation along a 2-kilometre strike. The region’s location along the Fetekro greenstone belt, near Endeavour Mining’s Lafigue Gold Mine, underscores its exploration potential.
Expanding Footprint with WIA Gold Project Acquisitions
Santa Fe’s acquisition of four additional gold projects from WIA Gold in Côte d’Ivoire; Mankono, Bouaflé, Bocanda, and Issia; adds 3,449 square kilometres to its portfolio, ranging from early-stage prospects to drill-ready targets. The company completed this transaction earlier this year, significantly broadening its exploration pipeline.
At Mankono, initial fieldwork included a stream sediment sampling program at the Dialakoro prospect, with assay results pending. The project sits along a regional shear zone near Tietto Minerals’ Abujar gold project and features two large gold geochemical anomalies with shallow high-grade intersections from previous drilling.
Bouaflé remains one of the most advanced of the new acquisitions, with historical drilling revealing a 17-kilometre gold mineralised corridor and recent RC drilling uncovering a high-grade zone west of the main deposit, including exceptional intercepts such as 4 metres at 87.83 g/t gold. Issia and Bocanda projects are at earlier stages but show strong gold anomalies warranting further exploration.
Financial Position and Next Steps
Santa Fe ended the quarter with a solid cash position of $5.775 million, including $64,312 in listed shares. The company continues to evaluate opportunities in the gold exploration sector, focusing on advancing its Côte d’Ivoire projects. The imminent release of assay results from Satama will be a key catalyst, alongside pending approvals such as the expected granting of the Bouake North exploration licence in the September quarter.
Bottom Line?
Santa Fe Minerals’ drilling progress at Satama and its expanded Côte d’Ivoire portfolio position it well for resource growth, but near-term catalysts hinge on assay results and regulatory approvals.
Questions in the middle?
- Will assay results from Satama confirm continuity and high-grade zones to justify expanded drilling?
- How quickly can Santa Fe complete the remaining RC holes and step-out drilling given wet season constraints?
- What impact will the pending Bouake North permit approval have on exploration momentum and resource definition?
