Elementos Limited has cleared all conditions to acquire up to 50% of Iberian Smelting, advancing its integrated European tin mine-to-metal strategy by linking its Oropesa project with downstream smelting capacity in Spain.

  • Option agreement for 50% of Robledollano smelter becomes unconditional
  • €475,000 paid with €620,000 due in January 2027
  • Smelter upgrades completed enhancing operational capacity
  • Supports EU goal for domestic critical minerals production
  • Integration targets European and North American refined tin markets

Unconditional Option Strengthens European Tin Integration

Elementos Limited (ASX:ELT) has cleared the final hurdles to secure an option to acquire up to a 50% stake in Iberian Smelting S.L., the operator of the Robledollano tin smelting and refining facility in Spain. This milestone marks a critical step in Elementos’ ambition to build a fully integrated European mine-to-metal tin supply chain, linking its flagship Oropesa Tin Project with downstream processing capabilities.

The option agreement, now unconditional, follows completion of essential smelter upgrades, regulatory approvals, due diligence, and a €475,000 payment, with a further €620,000 tranche scheduled for January 2027. Elementos retains the right to exercise this option through its Spanish subsidiary by October 2030, aiming to solidify its foothold in the European critical minerals landscape.

Strategic Alignment with EU Critical Minerals Objectives

Managing Director Joe David highlighted the strategic significance of integrating smelting and refining capacity with Oropesa’s tin concentrate production. The move aligns with the European Union’s target to source at least 10% of its primary raw materials domestically, a priority underscored by increasing geopolitical and supply chain risks.

By securing access to the Robledollano facility, Elementos positions itself to supply refined tin metal to European and North American customers, who currently face delivery premiums on benchmark tin prices. The recent smelter upgrades have already begun delivering commercial benefits, enhancing the facility’s readiness to handle significant volumes of tin concentrates.

Advancing Mine-to-Metal Supply Chain with Regional Support

The Robledollano Smelter’s proximity to the Oropesa project in Andalucía offers logistical advantages, enabling trucking of concentrates for local processing. Elementos’ integration strategy has garnered strong backing from government bodies, industrial customers, strategic investors, and financiers, reflecting confidence in the company’s vision to strengthen Europe’s critical minerals supply chain.

Alongside its European ambitions, Elementos continues to develop its Cleveland Project in Tasmania, maintaining a diversified portfolio in tin and critical minerals. The company’s recent progress, including regulatory milestones at Oropesa and a robust cash position, supports its trajectory toward a Final Investment Decision.

Bottom Line?

Elementos’ unconditional option on Iberian Smelting cements a key link in its European tin supply chain, setting the stage for integrated production and refined metal sales in strategic markets.

Questions in the middle?

  • When will Elementos decide to exercise the option and move to full ownership?
  • How will the company scale smelter capacity to match future Oropesa production?
  • What commercial agreements will underpin refined tin sales into Europe and North America?
