High-Grade Tin and Tungsten Discovered at Mt Cudgewa
Kali Metals Limited (ASX:KM1) has revealed a promising tin-tungsten mineralised system at its Mt Cudgewa Prospect, part of the 100%-owned Tallangatta Project in Victoria. Surface mapping and rock-chip sampling have delineated a 1.7-kilometre-long and 250-metre-wide zone characterised by dense swarms of quartz veins, some up to half a metre thick. Assays from 17 rock-chip samples returned tin oxide (SnO2) grades as high as 6.00% and tungsten oxide (WO3) up to 0.38%, signalling significant potential in an area historically known for alluvial tin workings dating back to the late 19th century.
Soil Sampling Extends Known Mineralisation
Complementing the rock-chip results, Kali Metals has collected 480 of a planned 880 soil samples across the Mt Cudgewa area. These samples reveal tin and tungsten anomalies not only over known mineralised zones but also extending particularly to the east, suggesting the mineralised system may be more extensive than previously recognised. A parallel tin anomaly located about 500 metres south of Mt Cudgewa and additional strong anomalies over granitoid units to the west hint at potential new sources feeding the mineralisation.
Strategic Exploration Steps Ahead
Managing Director Paul Adams emphasised the significance of the findings, noting the "exceptional results" and the identification of a "substantial extensive mineral system". The company plans to acquire high-resolution LiDAR imagery over approximately 350 square kilometres to enhance geological understanding and guide further fieldwork. Over the next six to nine months, Kali Metals intends to intensify mapping and sampling efforts, with preparations underway for track clearing and permitting necessary for trenching and drilling activities. These steps aim to lay the groundwork for a maiden drilling campaign to assess the project's economic viability.
Additional Targets at Mildren Prospect
Alongside Mt Cudgewa, initial rock-chip sampling at the Mildren Prospect has returned tungsten grades exceeding 0.1% WO3 in two of three samples, indicating potential for further exploration. While these results are preliminary, they broaden the scope of Kali Metals’ tin-tungsten exploration within the Tallangatta Project area.
Historical Context and Geological Setting
The Tallangatta Project covers 611 square kilometres in northern Victoria, situated 20 to 60 kilometres east and southeast of Albury-Wodonga. The geology is dominated by Palaeozoic granitoid and sedimentary units, hosting tin-tungsten mineralisation associated with quartz veins, greisen alteration, and pegmatite dykes. The Mt Cudgewa mineralised zone lies just south of extensive historical alluvial tin workings that operated from 1873 to 1919, though hard-rock tin-tungsten mineralisation has not been previously targeted with drilling.
