Final Public Consultation Kicks Off for Kachi Project

Lake Resources (ASX:LKE) has entered the last administrative phase before securing environmental approval for its flagship Kachi Lithium Brine Project in Catamarca Province, Argentina. The provincial Ministry of Mining officially launched the public consultation period on 3 August 2026, running through to 31 August. This phase precedes the issuance of the Environmental Impact Declaration (DIA), the formal environmental permit expected by 30 September 2026 that will greenlight the project’s development under defined conditions.

Community Engagement and Environmental Commitments

Lake Resources is mobilising its community relations team on the ground to ensure transparent dialogue with local stakeholders and host communities. The company emphasises its commitment to environmental stewardship, showcasing its Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) technology developed with partner Lilac Solutions. This process is engineered to protect the region’s sensitive ecosystem by returning over 95% of processed brine to the aquifer, isolating lithium processing from freshwater sources, and eliminating large evaporation ponds that traditionally disrupt Andean wetlands.

Managing Director David Dickson highlighted the importance of this consultation phase as a platform for respectful and constructive engagement, reflecting years of prior community interaction and the project’s alignment with local environmental priorities.

Regulatory Milestone Paves Way for Construction Readiness

The DIA approval represents the primary environmental and social permit required to make Kachi shovel-ready. Following the consultation period, the Catamarca Ministry of Mining will compile an evaluation report to determine the DIA’s issuance. This step is critical for transitioning Kachi from development to commercial construction, marking a significant regulatory milestone.

This progress builds on Lake Resources’ recent capital raise, which secured A$3.8 million to support environmental and power optimisation initiatives at Kachi, underpinning the company’s focus on sustainable lithium extraction and operational efficiency. The ongoing regulatory momentum complements prior approvals, including a key environmental management plan for sensitive wetlands, positioning Kachi as a potentially low-impact lithium source within Argentina’s Lithium Triangle.
