WA Gold Drilling Confirms Robust High-Grade Gold Continuity at Abercromby
WA Gold's latest assays from seven diamond drill holes at Abercromby reinforce the continuity of a high-grade gold system over 500m, underpinning a promising resource development phase.
- Seven drill holes confirm eastern lode continuity over 500m strike
- High-grade intercepts include up to 35.21 g/t Au
- Thick alteration zones suggest a larger gold system potential
- Weighted average grade aligns with current underground resource
- 6,000m further drilling planned to advance toward maiden Ore Reserve
Strong Drill Results Validate Abercromby Gold System
WA Gold Limited (ASX:WAU) has delivered assay results from seven diamond drill holes at its Abercromby Gold Project that confirm a continuous high-grade gold system spanning at least 500 metres of strike. The standout intercepts include a blistering 0.38m at 35.21 g/t Au and multiple intercepts exceeding 5 g/t Au, reinforcing the project's potential as a significant underground gold producer.
The drilling program targeted the eastern lode, with every hole intersecting mineralisation at or very close to the predicted positions. This 100% success rate bolsters confidence in the geological model that underpins WA Gold’s ongoing resource development strategy and the Abercromby Scoping Study.
Thick Alteration Zones Point to Larger System
Notably, drill hole 26ABDD001 intersected a substantial 231m thick alteration halo averaging 0.25 g/t Au, signalling a potentially larger and more complex gold system than previously understood. This alteration zone is characterised by intense silicification and quartz carbonate brecciation, hallmarks of robust gold mineralisation environments.
Such thick alteration zones, coupled with the high-grade intercepts, suggest Abercromby could host multiple economically significant mineralisation regimes. WA Gold’s CEO Ben Pollard highlighted this as a prompt to re-evaluate deposit architecture with an eye toward scale, a crucial step as the company advances toward development.
Resource Development and Project Advancement
The weighted average grade from the seven eastern lode intercepts stands at 2.61 g/t Au, closely matching the current underground Mineral Resource grade. This alignment provides further validation of the resource model and supports the company’s strategy to advance Abercromby through to a maiden Ore Reserve.
WA Gold plans to continue drilling with an additional 6,000m of resource development and step-out holes this quarter. These efforts aim to increase resource confidence, extend mineralisation, and refine mine planning. The company also intends to complete geotechnical drilling to support open pit design and Ore Reserve estimation.
The Abercromby Project benefits from granted mining leases hosting a 518,000-ounce Au Mineral Resource, proximity to operating gold processing facilities including a potential toll treatment arrangement with Wiluna Mining’s Matilda CIL plant, and favourable metallurgical characteristics with high gold recoveries of 93-95% via conventional carbon-in-leach processing.
Development Pathway and Strategic Outlook
The recently completed Scoping Study outlines a low-capital, staged mining approach targeting approximately 114,000 ounces of gold initially, combining a small open pit with underground mining. With a modest upfront capital requirement of about A$8 million and forecast pre-tax cashflows near A$270 million, Abercromby presents a compelling development opportunity.
WA Gold is progressing environmental, metallurgical, geotechnical, and mining engineering studies alongside drilling to de-risk the project. Subject to regulatory approvals and funding, the company targets a Financial Investment Decision by late 2027, positioning Abercromby to be development-ready by early 2028.
While these results affirm the project's promise, true widths of mineralisation remain approximated, and further drilling will be essential to confirm extensions and upgrade resource classifications. Investors will be watching how WA Gold balances resource growth with advancing technical studies and securing the necessary approvals to transition Abercromby into production.
Bottom Line?
WA Gold’s latest drilling at Abercromby strengthens the case for a sizeable, high-grade gold system, but the path to production hinges on upcoming drilling and regulatory milestones.
Questions in the middle?
- Will further drilling confirm extensions beyond the current 500m strike length?
- How will thick alteration zones influence the overall resource model and mining strategy?
- Can WA Gold secure necessary approvals and funding to meet its 2027 development decision target?
