Mission Sill Yields Two New PGM Target Zones
Galileo Mining (ASX:GAL) has sharpened its focus on the Norseman project in Western Australia with aircore drilling results that define two promising platinum group metals (PGM) zones at the Mission Sill prospect. The June 2026 program, comprising roughly 4,500 metres of drilling, infilled gaps along the mafic-ultramafic contact and confirmed anomalous PGM mineralisation across two zones spanning 1.4km and 2km strike lengths respectively.
These zones, labelled A and B, build on limited reverse circulation (RC) drilling from December 2025 that intersected sulphide lenses near the rock contact, a key geological setting for PGM accumulation. With the contact now well delineated, Galileo plans targeted RC drilling within these zones to better understand the size and grade of the sulphide mineralisation.
Callisto South Emerges as New Gold Target
Beyond PGM, the company has identified a new gold prospect at Callisto South, where reconnaissance aircore drilling returned a notable intercept of 4 metres at 1.22 grams per tonne gold starting from surface. This mineralisation sits at the contact between ultramafic rock and quartz-diorite, with supporting low-level silver and sulphur values indicating sulphide presence.
The gold intercept came from weathered regolith, interpreted as largely in situ rather than transported, and the prospective contact extends over 1.5 kilometres. Galileo intends to follow up with detailed mapping and sampling before further drilling, signalling fresh exploration momentum outside its established PGM footprint.
Expanding Drilling Plans Near Callisto Resource
September will see a new aircore drilling campaign targeting anomalous PGM rock chips grading up to 1.87 g/t 3E (Pd+Pt+Au) located about two kilometres along strike from the 17.5 million tonne Callisto resource. This program will also test previously unassessed areas along strike from Callisto North, leveraging broad-scale aircore drilling to efficiently define targets ahead of deeper RC drilling.
The Callisto deposit remains Galileo’s flagship asset, boasting a maiden Mineral Resource Estimate of 17.5 Mt at 1.04 g/t 4E, alongside nickel and copper credits. The deposit is notable for its Platreef-style mineralisation, analogous to South Africa’s renowned deposits, and ongoing metallurgical work supports conventional processing routes.
Exploration Methodology and Regional Context
Galileo’s approach combines geophysical surveys, geochemical analysis, and systematic drilling to unlock the Norseman project’s potential. The Mission Sill and Callisto prospects sit within a 255 km2 tenure package, with historical exploration highlighting the region’s nickel-copper-PGM affinity. The company’s use of aircore drilling to refine targets before committing to RC drilling reflects a strategic balance of cost-efficiency and geological insight.
With over 20 kilometres of prospective strike around Callisto and variable regolith conditions, the company’s methodology aims to navigate these complexities while advancing its resource base. The Norseman project’s location near established infrastructure further underpins its development potential.
Bottom Line?
Upcoming RC drilling in Mission Sill’s defined zones and expanded aircore programs near Callisto will be critical to confirming the scale and grade of Galileo’s Norseman mineralisation.
Questions in the middle?
- Will RC drilling confirm economically viable sulphide zones in Mission Sill’s target areas?
- How extensive is the newly identified gold mineralisation at Callisto South beyond initial intercepts?
- Can follow-up aircore drilling near Callisto resource unlock further PGM discoveries along strike?
