Kuniko Accelerates to Majority Control of Commonwealth-Silica Hill Project

Mining By Maxwell Dee 4 min read

Kuniko Limited has fast-tracked its acquisition of a 51% stake in the Commonwealth-Silica Hill gold-silver-copper project, achieving the earn-in milestone over a year early and setting the stage for resource expansion and district-scale exploration.

  • 51% ownership secured more than 12 months ahead of schedule
  • Phase 1 drilling reveals bonanza-grade mineralisation at Silica Hill
  • Ongoing Phase 2 drilling targets resource upgrade and regional growth
  • Right to increase stake to 70% with further A$1.5 million spend
  • Project located in prolific Lachlan Fold Belt with significant upside

Milestone Earn-in Completed Ahead of Schedule

Kuniko Limited (ASX:KNI) has clinched majority ownership of the Commonwealth-Silica Hill Gold-Silver-Copper Project in New South Wales, securing a 51% interest by meeting its initial $1.5 million exploration expenditure commitment more than a year ahead of the planned timeline. This swift execution underscores the company’s operational efficiency and strong conviction in the project’s potential.

With majority control now in hand, Kuniko assumes full responsibility for the project’s exploration strategy, positioning itself to accelerate resource growth and unlock the broader district-scale opportunities within the highly prospective Lachlan Fold Belt.

Exploration Success Highlights Silica Hill and Regional Potential

The earn-in phase has been marked by significant technical progress. Phase 1 drilling delivered standout results at the Silica Hill prospect, including an exceptional intercept of 0.5 metres grading 347 g/t gold equivalent (20,603 g/t silver, 27 g/t gold), highlighting the high-grade nature of the mineralised system. Complementary geophysical work, such as the Mobile MT survey completed in late 2025, identified a 4-kilometre conductive corridor peppered with multiple high-priority drill targets within close proximity to the core project area.

Historic shafts at Welcome Jack, Walls, and Stringers, stretching over a 2-kilometre trend, add immediate drilling targets and potential to expand the mineralised footprint to a 5 square kilometre highly fertile zone. Phase 2 drilling is currently underway, focusing on upgrading the Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE) and testing these underexplored regional targets.

Clear Pathway to Increased Ownership and Resource Growth

Kuniko retains the right to boost its stake to 70% by committing an additional $1.5 million in exploration over the next two years. The company is actively progressing this through its ongoing drilling programs and exploration activities. Upon reaching 70%, a joint venture arrangement with Impact Minerals will formalise, with Impact retaining a 30% free-carried interest through to a Decision to Mine.

Upcoming catalysts include a comprehensive regional targeting review in August that integrates geology, geochemistry, gravity, and Mobile MT datasets to refine drill targets. Assay results from the current Phase 2 diamond drilling are expected in September, with an upgraded Project MRE slated for release by December 2026. The exploration focus remains on the extensive 4-kilometre conductive corridor and historic undrilled shafts, which could significantly enhance the project’s scale and value.

Strategic Positioning in a Tier-1 Mining District

The Commonwealth Project sits within the Lachlan Fold Belt, a Tier-1 mining jurisdiction renowned for hosting major operations such as Newmont’s Cadia-Ridgeway and Evolution Mining’s Northparkes and Cowal. The project includes two closely located deposits: the polymetallic Commonwealth Main and South deposits, and the epithermal Silica Hill deposit known for its high-grade silver mineralisation.

Historical JORC (2012) Inferred Mineral Resource Estimates reported by Impact Minerals highlight significant gold and silver mineralisation, although Kuniko has yet to independently verify these figures. The company is currently undertaking technical work to validate and potentially update these estimates under its own Competent Person.

Kuniko’s Managing Director, Maja McGuire, emphasised the milestone as a strong endorsement of the company’s exploration strategy and expressed confidence in the project’s growth potential. She highlighted the discovery of the Silica Hill mineralised system and the broader mineral system’s substantial upside as key drivers for ongoing exploration success.

Bottom Line?

Kuniko’s accelerated earn-in and majority control position it to drive resource growth and unlock a sizeable district-scale gold-silver system in a premier mining region.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will Phase 2 drilling confirm and expand the bonanza-grade mineralisation at Silica Hill?
  • How will the updated Mineral Resource Estimate reshape the project’s valuation and development timeline?
  • What strategic moves might Kuniko pursue to maximise shareholder value as it advances toward 70% ownership?
