Aruma Resources has significantly expanded its Tillex Copper-Silver Project in Ontario by acquiring 94 new claims, extending the copper trend to 2.4 kilometres and raising $3.5 million to accelerate exploration.
- Tillex Project expanded to 18.6km² with 2.4km copper trend
- Acquisition includes known copper and gold occurrences
- Historical drilling highlights copper mineralisation at Falcon and Russell Creek
- Firm $3.5 million placement secured to fund Phase 2 drilling and surveys
- Exploration to start immediately with geophysical and sampling programs
Strategic Acquisition Boosts Tillex Project Scale
Aruma Resources (ASX:AAJ) has dramatically increased the footprint of its Tillex Copper-Silver Project in Ontario’s Timmins district by acquiring 94 contiguous mineral claims covering around 16km². This lifts the total project area to approximately 18.6km² and extends the interpreted strike length of the prospective Tillex trend to about 2.4 kilometres. The new claims wrap around the eastern and southern edges of the existing tenure, securing key geological structures that could host copper mineralisation.
Copper and Gold Potential Enhanced by Historical Data
The acquisition brings into Aruma’s control multiple known copper occurrences, including the Falcon and Russell Creek prospects, where historical drilling has intersected copper sulphides and hydrothermal alteration. Notably, Falcon’s drill hole CUR35-02 returned intervals of 0.49% copper over 1 metre and 0.12% over 2 metres, despite limited follow-up exploration. Russell Creek’s 1989 drilling encountered zones with up to 1.04% copper and associated zinc, underscoring the area’s mineralising potential.
Beyond copper, the newly acquired claims host several gold-in-till anomalies, such as Foster Farm and Watabeag, which remain largely untested. Foster Farm’s anomalous till sample contained 2,200ppb gold with visible gold grains, suggesting proximity to a bedrock gold source. Watabeag, last explored in the 1980s, showed sulphide mineralisation and alteration indicative of gold potential but has seen minimal modern exploration.
$3.5 Million Placement to Accelerate Exploration
To fund aggressive exploration across this expanded land package, Aruma has secured firm commitments for a $3.5 million equity placement priced at A$0.0045 per share. The raise will be conducted in two tranches, with the first tranche of $441,000 to settle imminently and the balance subject to shareholder approval in September. Aruma chairman James Moses also intends to participate with a $50,000 subscription.
The funds will underpin ongoing Phase 2 diamond drilling; currently progressing well with about 3,600 metres planned; alongside new field reconnaissance, airborne magnetic and electromagnetic surveys, and geochemical sampling. These activities aim to refine drill targets and expand the mineralised footprint in this Tier 1 mining jurisdiction.
Exploration Outlook and Project Significance
Located within the prolific Abitibi greenstone belt, the Tillex Project lies near major regional structures and established mining operations, including Alamos Gold’s Golden Arrow Mine 6.3 kilometres away. The geological setting, featuring volcanogenic massive sulphide-style copper-silver mineralisation with zinc halos, is analogous to the nearby Kidd Creek copper-zinc mine, one of Canada’s largest.
Aruma’s managing director Grant Ferguson described the acquisition as transformative, significantly enhancing the project’s scale and potential. The consolidation of prospective ground along the Tillex trend not only bolsters copper exposure but also opens new avenues for gold exploration, a diversification that could add considerable value if results prove encouraging.
Historical exploration data, while promising, is limited and not compliant with current JORC standards, underscoring the importance of Aruma’s planned systematic investigation. The company’s phased approach; starting with geophysical surveys and sampling; will help delineate priority targets for drilling, which remains the critical catalyst for confirming mineralisation continuity and scale.
Bottom Line?
Aruma’s expanded landholding and fresh capital position it well to unlock the broader potential of the Tillex trend, but the quality and extent of mineralisation remain to be proven through upcoming exploration programs.
Questions in the middle?
- Will the expanded strike length translate into a materially larger copper resource?
- Can Aruma’s exploration uncover economically viable gold mineralisation alongside copper?
- How will results from Phase 2 drilling influence the company’s valuation and shareholder support for the placement?
