L1 Group Expands Alternatives Platform with PXC Advisors

L1 Group Limited (ASX:L1G) has unveiled PXC Advisors, a new specialist global long short investment manager formed as a 50/50 joint venture with Dr Andrew Lin. This launch marks a significant step in L1 Group’s ongoing strategy to build out its alternatives platform by partnering with high-calibre investment talent.

Dr Lin has managed the PXC Advisors Dynamic Return Strategy since January 2024 using capital from L1 Capital’s founders and employees. The strategy has delivered an impressive annualised return of 51% net of fees through to 31 July 2026. Now, PXC Advisors is preparing to open this strategy to external investors from September 2026, broadening its capital base and market reach.

Strategy Focuses on Industry Inflection Points

The Dynamic Return Strategy targets mispriced securities that arise during significant business or industry inflection points. Dr Lin emphasises a bottom-up research approach, focusing on sectors like technology, industrials, and healthcare where earnings outlooks diverge sharply from market expectations. The strategy actively adjusts market exposure to align with evolving risk-reward profiles, aiming for absolute returns regardless of market direction.

Dr Lin brings a unique blend of experience to PXC Advisors, having spent eight years on L1 Capital’s award-winning Long Short team, alongside a background as a technology entrepreneur, consultant at Bain & Company, and medical doctor.

Integration with Platinum International Technology Fund

From 14 September 2026, PXC Advisors will also take over management of the Platinum International Technology Fund portfolio, signaling a further expansion of its investment footprint. This transition aligns with L1 Group’s ambition to leverage operational infrastructure and global distribution capabilities to scale specialist investment businesses.

L1 Group CEO Julian Russell highlighted the partnership as a milestone in the group’s growth trajectory, noting the firm’s focus on combining seed capital with exceptional investment expertise. The launch follows a period of strong fund inflows and performance fees for L1 Group, which recently saw its funds under management rise to $19.1 billion, driven in part by its long short strategies.

While past performance of the strategy is robust, standard disclaimers remind investors that historical returns are not a reliable indicator of future results. The market will be watching how PXC Advisors performs once external capital is introduced and how it manages the transition of the Platinum International Technology Fund.

Bottom Line?

PXC Advisors’ launch adds a high-performing long short strategy to L1 Group’s growing alternatives suite, but its success with external investors and fund transitions will be critical to watch.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will PXC Advisors sustain its strong 51% annualised returns with external capital?
  • How smoothly will the management transition of the Platinum International Technology Fund proceed?
  • What impact will PXC Advisors have on L1 Group’s overall fund performance and fee income?
