Geophysical Review Highlights Structural Complexity

Aureka Limited (ASX:AKA) has leveraged the expertise of geophysicist Dr Barry Murphy to refine the geological understanding of its Irvine Gold Project in Victoria’s Stawell Corridor. Dr Murphy’s application of multi-scale edge analysis, or geophysical worming, has mapped previously undetected fault systems and confirmed a complex interplay of NW-trending regional faults intersected by NE-SW orthogonal structures. This intricate structural architecture is believed to control gold mineralisation and enhances targeting confidence for new discoveries.

The updated interpretation identifies a central mafic corridor flanked by sediments, with structural inflections and jogs potentially acting as mineralisation conduits. These insights build on recent geophysical datasets including drone magnetics and Induced Polarisation surveys, providing a more nuanced picture of the subsurface geology.

Reaffirmed Exploration Targets Suggest Significant Upside

The company has reaffirmed six exploration targets across the project, divided into advanced and conceptual categories. Advanced targets, positioned along strike or up-dip from known mineral resources, range from 0.88 to 1.76 million tonnes grading 2.0 to 2.3 grams per tonne (g/t) gold, equating to 85,000 to 197,000 ounces. Conceptual targets, representing less explored areas west of the main lode, span 2.35 to 4.7 million tonnes at similar grades, potentially adding 151,000 to 348,000 ounces.

These targets complement the existing 398,000-ounce inferred JORC resource, recently updated to 4.11 million tonnes at 2.71 g/t gold. The advanced targets include ET 1 and ET 2, with ET 1 considered a high-priority up-dip extension of the Resolution Zone, and ET 2 supported by historic air core drilling and geochemical anomalies.

Diamond Drilling Program Underway to Test Extensions

Aureka’s ongoing diamond drilling program is designed to test the continuity of mineralisation both up and down dip of the known structures and to explore the newly defined targets. The program aims to expand the current resource base and convert exploration targets into defined mineral resources. The company emphasises that while the exploration targets are conceptual with inherent uncertainty, the structural complexity and geophysical signatures provide a compelling rationale for further drilling.

The Irvine Project sits within the Mooranambool Metamorphic Complex, part of the prolific Stawell Zone, which hosts the 5.3 million-ounce Stawell Goldfield and the operating Stawell Gold Mine. Gold mineralisation is associated with sheared basalt and meta-sediment contacts, a setting conducive to economic deposits.

Independent Expertise Drives Confidence

Dr Barry Murphy, with four decades of regional geological experience including a key role in discovering the 5.5 million-ounce Bankan Gold Project in Guinea, has acted as an independent consultant on the Irvine Project. His work has been instrumental in confirming multiple areas of interest and refining targeting strategies. Neither employed nor a director of Aureka, Dr Murphy’s involvement adds an external layer of credibility to the updated geological model.
