Broken Hill Gold Uncovers Multiple Near-Mine Targets at White Dam Ahead of Major Drilling

Broken Hill Gold (ASX:BH6) has identified several promising gold-copper targets near its White Dam project in South Australia, setting the stage for a significant exploration push focused on deeper sulphide mineralisation following the Icebreaker discovery.

  • Multiple near-mine gold-copper targets identified with limited deep drilling
  • Exploration to focus on IOCG-style sulphide mineralisation beneath oxide zones
  • Over 30,000 metres of drilling and geophysical surveys planned over 18 months
  • Key prospects include Mary Mine, Wilkins, Green and Gold, and extensions to Hannaford and Vertigo
  • Permitting and heritage clearances underway to support accelerated exploration

Historical Data Reveals Untapped Potential Beneath Oxide Zones

Broken Hill Gold (ASX:BH6) is gearing up for a major exploration campaign at its White Dam Gold-Copper Project, located 80km east of Broken Hill in South Australia's increasingly coveted Curnamona Province. A detailed review of historical exploration data has uncovered multiple near-mine targets with shallow oxide gold and copper mineralisation but scant deep drilling to test for primary sulphide deposits.

The company’s recent breakthrough at the Icebreaker prospect, where high-grade gold and copper sulphide mineralisation was discovered near surface, has reshaped its exploration strategy. Until now, previous owners largely focused on shallow oxide resources suitable for heap leach processing, leaving deeper IOCG-style sulphide mineralisation largely unexplored.

Targeting Deeper IOCG Deposits Across Multiple Prospects

Broken Hill Gold’s exploration team has identified several key prospects that share structural and geophysical traits with known deposits like Vertigo and Hannaford, as well as the Icebreaker discovery itself. These include Mary Mine, Wilkins Prospect, Green and Gold Mine, and extensions around Hannaford and Vertigo pits, all exhibiting historical drill intercepts with encouraging gold and copper grades but limited vertical depth testing.

For example, Mary Mine, 12km west of White Dam, has historic drill results such as 16m at 0.9 g/t Au and 2.2% Cu from just 13m depth, yet no deep sulphide drilling. Similarly, Wilkins Prospect shows intercepts including 9m at 0.9 g/t Au and 0.5% Cu, with only shallow drilling to date. The Green and Gold Mine, 16km southwest, returned 36m at 1.0 g/t Au and 0.3% Cu from 56m, again without follow-up deeper drilling.

Extensive Drilling and Geophysical Surveys to Define Resource Upgrades

To unlock this potential, Broken Hill Gold plans to deploy induced polarisation (IP) and magnetic geophysical surveys imminently over priority areas. These surveys will guide a substantial drilling program exceeding 30,000 metres over the next 18 months. The aim is to upgrade existing Inferred Resources at Vertigo, Hannaford, and Icebreaker to Indicated status and to explore extensions at depth that could reveal significant sulphide mineralisation.

Drilling is already underway at Icebreaker and will soon expand to Vertigo North Extended and Hannaford, supporting an updated oxide Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE) expected in Q4 2026. This will feed into open pit optimisation studies and mine planning, potentially accelerating the pathway to production.

Strategic Positioning in a Hot Exploration Province

The Curnamona Province is attracting growing attention from major gold-copper players, drawn by the region’s prolific IOCG deposits such as Kalkaroo and North Portia. Broken Hill Gold’s large ground position and early mover advantage provide a platform to leverage this interest.

Managing Director Matthew Boyes emphasised the shift in focus: “The Icebreaker discovery has really shifted our focus to the potential for a significant sulphide hosted copper-gold system near surface. The area has never been systematically explored for a major copper-gold system, with recent exploration only targeting shallow oxide mineralisation.”

He added that a large portion of recent capital raising will fund regional exploration programs, including extensive geochemical and geophysical work and reprocessing of historical datasets.

Permitting and Heritage Clearances Set to Enable Accelerated Work

Broken Hill Gold has submitted permitting applications to South Australia’s Department for Energy and Mining and scheduled heritage clearances to start in mid-August. These steps are critical to unlocking access to the multiple near-mine and regional targets identified.

With a portfolio of over 50 historical prospects within its tenements, many with limited or no deep drilling, Broken Hill Gold is positioning White Dam as a hub for discovery and resource growth in a province poised for renewed exploration intensity.

Bottom Line?

The next 18 months will be crucial for Broken Hill Gold as it tests the deeper sulphide potential beneath White Dam’s oxide caps, with early geophysical surveys and drilling results likely to set the tone for resource upgrades and mine planning.

Questions in the middle?

  • Will deeper drilling confirm significant IOCG-style sulphide mineralisation beneath White Dam’s oxide zones?
  • How will Broken Hill Gold’s exploration results compare to nearby large IOCG deposits in the Curnamona Province?
  • What timeline and capital requirements will emerge from the upcoming resource upgrades and open pit optimisation studies?
